This binary-only release is intended for updating Calmira II 3.02 installations. You should have Calmira II 3.02 installed before installing this beta. To install, exit Calmira and replace CALMIRA.EXE, EXPLORER.EXE and CTASKMAN.EXE Report any problems regarding the new features to erwin@calmira.org or on Calmira Online! at http://www.calmira.org What's new (in beta 3): ======================= - The Explorer top level menu works and all bugs have been fixed. - You can now assign a color to the Start Menu. Overall color managment has been improved as well. SEE NOTES. - 'Open With' now queries the registry for registered programs. The [File viewers] section in calmira.ini is now obsolete. - Calmira queries the registry instead of WIN.INI for registered filetype icons. - /E switch for Explorer.exe; /E will open the Explorer at the specified folder, otherwise it opens an icon window. - Taskmanager now asks if Calmira should be restarted if it is not running while it is the shell. - Removed the 'Rename' edit box due to integration with the Explorer tree. The old dialog has returned. Bugs fixed: - The Explorer and icon windows would not remember their size between sessions. They do now, and they re-open in the right order. - The last column in list view would get the wrong size if the description column was not showing. Dummy column added. - The Explorer will no longer close/crash if pointed to an invalid folder. - The Ascociation tab in file properties fialed to show the correct ascociation from the registry; the 'Nothing' radio button would be checked. (Case compare problem.) What's new (in beta 2a): ======================= This release contains all fixes of bugs found in the beta 2 release: - A General Protection Fault occured when the explorer was opened with 'Use a single section status bar...' set. - 'Open in new window' stopped working (forgot to change variable). - The 'Rename' edit box did not show (hidden behind the filepane). - The Explorer refused to open if 'LastFolder' pointed to a non-existing directory. - AutoResize did not account for the top level menu. What's new (in beta 2): ======================= This release has ONE mjor redesign: The Explorer The Explorer Tree and File Pane are now merged into one window. This beta is intended to test only the new Explorer. See the notes at the end of the file for issues relating to the Explorer. What's new (in beta 1a): ======================== This release contains all fixes of bugs found in the beta 1 release. These include all the bugs in network support, and some bugs that came to the surface, but were already there: - Explorer: 'Open in new window' now works. - Explorer tree would not show system folder, even when 'Show hidden and system files' was enabled. this could also cause the Parent Folder toolbar button not to work, since it now relies on the parent folder be visible in the Tree (if present). - Double clicking a folder in a stand alone icon window would do nothing - All drives and folders would show as shared when a netdriver is installed, but file sharing is turned off. - Shared drived/folder showed an empty icon in the Explorer. Not a bug after all, see notes below. New Features (in beta 1): ========================= * Taskbar now Shows window's own icons (finally!) * Full network support (map drives & share folders from the Explorer!) * Resizable column header in list view * Explorer Tree and attached file window are now synchronized; Changing directory in the file pane will cause the Tree to follow * can open .url files * Windows Desktop button in Desktop Properties Future features (?) =================== - CD LFN support - Refine tree updating - Block device & Network LFN support - Enhance Progman DDE support if Calmira detects DDE messages from a setup program it will open up Start menu properties dialog to handle messages in real time, instead of buffering all messages. - FileSysChange aware - Auto assign internet icon to URL in start menu - Support macro's in shortcuts - (Auto) arrange shortcuts - Recent Documents menu at least for documents opened in Explorer - New File Browse dialog - Import Control Panel items - Export Start menu to Program Manager (seperate module) Notes: ====== Start menu color: - You have to replace some lines in the [Colour descriptions] section in Calmira.ini for the start menu to show up in the System properties. Replace the last two line with these three: 8=Start menu background 9=Start menu highlight bar 10=Checklist background If you change the color of the Start menu, The icons are not updated until you rebuild the Start menu. Explorer: - Use the TAB key to switch between the tree and file pane. ALT-W no longer works. - The first time you open Explorer, it will have the size of your old Explorer pane. Just resize and close the Explorer, it will save it's settings. - If you see empty icons for shared drives and folders in the Explorer, remove EXPLRICO.BMP for your Calmira directory. This bitmap has been chaged to include sharing icons. Network: - Mapping drives from the Explorer or Icon window requires that you have a net driver installed that supports windows, ie. MS Client for MS-DOS under windows 3.1x or the built in networking of Windows for Workgroups. - Sharing drives and folders is only supported with a net driver that supports it, ie. LAN Manager or Windows for Workgroups. Resizable header in list view: - If you find the columns in small icon view too wide or narrow, switch to list view and adjust the filename column to the desired width by dragging the header divider, then switch back to small icon view. CALMIRA.INI: - Add the following line in CALMIRA.INI, under [Desktop]: WinDesktop=control.exe main.cpl Desktop Make sure 'Desktop' reflects the language on your windows installation; it needs to be the same as it shows up in Control Panel. - The FilepaneCols setting has been moved from [Desktop] to [File System]. It defaults to 5 now, so it should not extend beyond the screen in large icon view. - Obsolete settings (beta 2): [Preferences] TreeAlign= TreeCloseFilePane= - Obsolete settings (beta 3): [File viewers] (entire section) Known issues: ============= Explorer Resizing the Explorer so small that the icon window is invisable (negative size) and resizing it back again, will disturb icon window size. Just re-open Explorer to correct it. The tree does not update when a folder is created or removed in the File pane.
