Outlook <=> HPLX File Converter Version 3.0 This utility can convert between Outlook's Contacts folders and the HP 100/200LX's Phone and Database apps, and can convert between Outlook's Calendar and Tasks folders and the LX's Appointment app. Features include: * Support of Outlook 97, 98, and 2000. * Version 3.0 adds the ability to write ADB (appointment) files for the LX. * Version 3.0 should correctly convert extended character sets between the LX and the Windows environment (thanks to Paulo Custodio for the tips). * Read and write password-protected LX databases. You enter the password by clicking the "Options" button. It won't allow someone to read from an LX file without the correct password. * Version 2.20 added better error messages (error messages are now passed correctly from the DLL that does the LX data conversion. -------- Calendar/Tasks Features --------- * This version will create ADB files from Outlook data, but will not modify existing ADB files. You specify a template ("source") ADB file whose settings (including password) are used in the new file. If the source file is password-protected, then the created file will have the same password. * When converting from the LX to Outlook, you can optionally ignore items starting with the "|" character, which indicates a batch file or a macro to run on the LX. But if you leave these out of Outlook, there is no current way to have a created file have these items. * Version 2.20 fixed the limitation with other versions, which would not mark Tasks as complete. Tasks are now correctly working. * Outlook 97 does not allow access to exceptions to recurring items, so if you're using OL97 and your calendar has exceptions (as when you modify one of a recurring series), the LX file won't show anything different for the exceptions. OL98 and 2000 work fine. * Outlook 97 and 98 do not allow access to exceptions to recurring tasks. I'm not sure whether OL2000 does. -------- Contacts Features --------- * Support of any format PDB, GDB, or NDB palmtop file. * Version 3.0 fixed a bug that would create duplicates in Outlook. * Synchronize a palmtop file with an Outlook folder. Both will then have exactly the same set of data. * Select sub-folders of the main Outlook Contacts folder. You can select multiple folders for export by holding the CTRL key while clicking them. * Map fields between Outlook's Contacts and the LX however you like. * Multiple Outlook Contact fields can be assigned to each LX field, so in case an Outlook field is blank, it will go to a second or third to find data to put in the LX field. * You can separate Outlook's multi-line street address fields into their first, second, or third lines and assign them separately to LX fields. * Field mapping is stored for each different palmtop contacts file you use, so you can have several different ones and it will remember the mapping for each. This info is stored in the same directory as the LX file, using the palmtop file name, except with a .MAP file extension. * If you pass a palmtop file name on the command line, that palmtop file, along with all its mapping info, will be loaded when it starts. * If you also pass the string "/run" after the file name, then the conversion process is started automatically. To use the utility, you must have Outlook installed on the computer running this utility. You should always check the field mapping to make sure things are going where you want. Study Outlook's field layout, because some fields are better for putting data in than others (they're visible on Outlook's main form view).
