OpenOffice.org 1.1.1 for OS/2 A joint effort between Serenity Systems and InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH =========================================== = OpenOffice.org 1.1.1 for OS/2 and eCS = =========================================== Release 1.1.1 - 2004-04-01 (C) 2003-2004 InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH (C) 2003-2004 Serenity Systems International (C) Sun Microsoystems Inc. 1. Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OpenOffice.org for OS/2 and eCS is a port of OpenOffice 1.1.1 to the OS/2 Warp and eComStation platforms. It is based on the latest code released by Sun Microsystems and the OpenOffice.org community and provides OS/2 and eCS users with the complete feature set of the OpenOffice.org suite. 2. Requirements ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OpenOffice.org for OS/2 and eCS requires a current version of OS/2 or eCS, such as Convenience Pack 1, Convenience Pack 2 or eComStation 1.1. Earlier versions of OS/2 have not been tested. In additions, the following components have to be installed. - InnoTek Font Engine for OS/2 (FT2LIB) - InnoTek Runtime for OS/2 (INNOWIN) - InnoTek OS/2 Kit for Java (optional) The latest versions should be used, at least the current version at the time when this build of OpenOffice.org has been released, must be installed. The installer will verify the presence of these components and refuse installation if a component is not present or outdated. InnoTek OS/2 Kit for Java has to be present for OpenOffice.org Java support. Some parts of OpenOffice have been written in Java and without a Java installation, these features will be disabled. For installation, at least 500MB of disk space should be available on the target drive. A complete installation requires about 150MB of diskspace. However, the installation requires temporary disk space. 3. Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation can be started by invoking the self extracting installer. After the system requirements have been tested, the OpenOffice.org installer will be launched. The OpenOffice.org installer will guide you through the installation process. At the end, the installer will try to find an installed copy of InnoTek OS/2 Kit for Java. Make sure that the detected Java installation is up to date (at least the most recent version of InnoTek's OS/2 Kit for Java at the time this build of OpenOffice.org for OS/2 and eCS was released). Do not try to point OpenOffice.org to another Java product (e.g. IBM Java 1.3.1), this will most likely result in errors or even system hangs. 4. Support ~~~~~~~~~~ Support is available for enterprise customers. Please contact InnoTek at support@innotek.de. In addition, InnoTek provides an online support forum at http://www.innotek.de/support/forums. This is a platform for end user support and will be monitored by InnoTek staff on a regular basis. 5. Additional Information ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5.1 Changes to OpenOffice.org The following changes have been performed compared to the equivalent Windows release of OpenOffice.org: - the Quickstart feature has been removed and is currently not supported - Mobile Device support has been removed and is not supported - Python support has been removed - support for platform specific file dialogs has been removed 6. Known Problems / Restrictions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - the system codepage will be used for printing, this means that only characters present in the system codepage may be printed. On the screen, it is possible to display the full range of Unicode characters due to the use of FT2LIB. As OS/2 does not support printing Unicode characters, we recommend creating PDF documents in OpenOffice and using Acrobat Reader for printing them. - integrated FTP support does not function correctly (cross platform OpenOffice issue) 7.
