OpenGL for OS/2 for Intel-based PC's ------------------------------------ This directory contains exectuable binaries and other materials needed to run OpenGL(*) on OS/2 Warp(*) on Intel x86-based PC's. OpenGL is a popular 3D graphics programming interface. It consists of a collection of "C" language subroutines for drawing points, lines and triangles, applying textures, removing hidden surfaces, creating transparent surfaces, and a wealth of other functions. OpenGL is available on most Unix workstations as well as OS/2. To create new OpenGL programs, you must know how to program and you must have a compiler. For more information about OpenGL, see http://www.rs6000.ibm.com/software/OpenGL/ The zip file(s) in this directory contains all of the libraries and header files needed to develop and run OpenGL programs on OS/2. This zip file(s) also contains documentation, a number of demos, and the aux and tk windowing toolkit libraries. Please be sure to read the license agreement in the file LICENSE. By obtaining one of the zip files from this server, you will be agreeing to abide by the terms set forth in the LICENSE. Hardware and Software Requirements ---------------------------------- o OpenGL will occupy 6-8 MB on your disk when installed; this includes the OpenGL DLLs, documentation, and example and demo source code. o The zip files do not include man pages. These are available from Addison-Wesley -- "The OpenGL Reference Manual", ISBN 0-201-63276-4. Most technical bookstores stock/should be able to find this book. o OpenGL requires the following hardware and software: > 16 MB RAM > OS/2 Warp with Multimedia support installed > Strongly recommended: an OS/2 Warp video driver for whatever video card you have. If you can run MMPM, you're probably set. Most of the ftp servers out there for OS/2 have Warp drivers for S3s, Tsengs, ATIs, Diamond Vipers and more. Warp drivers installed with OS/2 usually do OK. > A video card that supports at least an 8-bit (256 color) screen. ------------------------------------------------ * OpenGL is a registered trademark of Silicon Graphics, Inc. * OS/2 Warp is a registered Trademark of Internationsal Business Machines.
