Friends, Like many of you I struggled to get the Broderbund's CD game Myst to operate under OS/2. I traveled three online networks gleaning advice from all of them. After tinkering, I finally was able to get Myst to run. Later, another user who was experiencing the same problem, tried what I had done, and he too was able to get Myst to run. Therefore, I have chosen to upload what has worked. I am using OS/2 v.2.11, Vega motherboard, 486DX-33, 8 megs RAM, HPFS 420 meg hard drive, Diamond Graphics, SVGA, all on a homebrew system I built myself. The soundcard is a SoundBlaster 16 MCD w/ASP, with a Mitsumi double-speed CD-ROM attached. I run Myst in a full screen Win-OS2 session. 1. I deleted all my files in the Myst directory related to the quicktime video. That meant all files with the *.QTC extension. Apparently Myst is then intelligent enough to scope out my system looking for the system's own inherent version. 2. I REM'ed out the CPS.SYS driver from my CONFIG.SYS. Apparently this driver is incompatible with Win-OS2. 3. When the program locks up at the beginning, with the revolving Broderbund logo, I jiggle my mouse across the top of the screen, occasionally clicking it. As ludicrous as it sounds, this actually works. 4. My object notebook settings were changed to -- WIN_RUN_MODE=3.1 Enhanced Compatibility WIN_DDE=ON WIN_CLIPBOARD=ON DOS_FILES=100 DOS_HIGH=ON DPMI_DOS_API=ENABLED DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT=128 EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT=0 IDLE_SECONDS=5 IDLE_SENSITIVITY=95 XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT=6144 Everything else is default. 5. In the SYSTEM.INI file for Win-OS2 change the parameter to [This reportedly worked for many other users. But when I attempted this I lost all video in Myst.] -- [timer.drv] TIMERMax386Res=30 TIMERMax286Res=30 In the end, Myst DOES work under OS/2! It is just a pain to make it so.
