P5Test has been brought to you by MAGEE ENTERPRISES, INC., the makers of NETWORK H.Q., AUTOMENU, AUTOMENU for Networks and AUTOMENU for Kids. P5Test is part of the technology used in Version 3.0 of Network HQ, due in early 1995. P5TEST identifies the processor in your system, and then tests the floating point unit present (if any) to determine if the recently found flaw in the Pentium(TM) processor division operator is present. It then displays your processor type and the results of the division test on the screen. P5TEST can be run from the DOS prompt or from Windows itself. If you run it from DOS, it will simply display its results textually on the screen. If you run it from Windows, it will display the results in a Windows dialog box. If possible, P5TEST will display the value of the CPU Signature register on your CPU. This is an internal register on Intel(TM) processors which precisely identifies the type and version of the processor. The rightmost digit in the CPU Signature is the stepping level of the processor. This is like a version number for the processor, and is incremented when newer versions of the processor are released. We have tested a number of Pentium processors at Magee, and have found the bug to be present in 60 MHz and 66 MHz Pentium processors with a CPU Signatures of 0513 and 0515, as well as 90 MHz and 100 MHz Pentium processors with CPU Signatures of 0521 and 0522. When newer versions of the Pentium processor appear which do not exhibit this flaw, presumably the stepping level will be incremented to a higher number to indicate the fix. However, Intel has not yet published these stepping level values. In any case, the value of your CPU Signature register should be helpful to you in identifying the precise version of the Pentium processor that you have installed in your PC. This information may be useful if you need to call your system vendor or Intel for support. NETWORK H.Q. is an automated network inventory tool designed to keep track of essential hardware and software information for PC workstations. It will warn the administrator of configuration changes and potential problems that may arise. All information is stored in an ASCII database on the server and is instantly updated each time the user logs in. NETWORK H.Q. is not a TSR and doesn't interfere with valuable workstation memory resources. NETWORK H.Q. supports Novell NetWare, Banyan VINES, Microsoft LAN Manager as well as any NetBIOS, NDIS or ODI compatible network. Simply put, it is the fastest, most accurate way to document the workstations on your LAN. NETWORK H.Q. is offered as a per-server license in configurations of 25, 100 and 250 workstations. AUTOMENU is the world's best-selling menu system for IBM PCs and compatibles. It provides easy, one-key access to all your applications, DOS commands, batch files and even Windows!
