Additional Configuration Information:

*NOTE*
SINGLE channel Dell PowerEdge RAID Controler 2/SC (PERC 2/SC) uses PEDGE2SC.ADD. Do not use the DUAL channel RAID Dell PERC driver named PEDGE.ADD.
1) Required: PERC 2/SC placed in one of top 4 PCI BUS Slots to be in PRIMARY PCI BUS
2) RAID 5 was three physical drives at 64K stripes; Read Policy WRTHRU, Write Policy ADAPTIVE, Cache Policy DirectIO; Controler set to FlexRAID Powerfail to ENABLED
3) PCI card placement: Intel Pro100+ at top slot in PCI-1, PERC 2/SC in 4th in PCI-4
4) CMOS- Changed serial ports from AUTO to COM1 and COM2 respectively; turned Primary onboard PCI SCSI OFF; booted from slot devices High to Low but not required; after CMOS changed, rebooted directly to review resource use in Resource Configuration Utility (RCU)
5) Verified in RCU no interrupt sharing between PERC 2/SC, NIC, and secondary onboard PCI SCSI; saved and turned power off as it was counting memory; (changes to RCU require a cold-boot)
6) On 2nd install diskette, changed SCSI drivers to use those from FixPak 35. Because PCI BUS is 3 times faster than older systems, the OS/2 CD's drivers are out of date; new ones are required to enable CDROM data transfers to copy all files and copy correctly to hard drive: OS2DASD.DMD, AIC7870.ADD, OS2CDROM.DMD, CDFS.IFS and OS2SCSI.DMD; during installation, verified those same drivers used when rebooting to hard drive by making sure they were copied to both C:\ and C:\OS2\BOOT; corrected again AFTER install completed since old SCSI drivers were copied to both areas during multiple reboots
7) Chose SuperVGA for video; would normally accept NIC driver choice and change later, but on probing it made no choice; chose 3COM driver during install phase; once install done, added Intel NIC driver into MPTS and then changed NIC to Intel Pro100+; ran shutdown, booted from hard drive; Intel driver diskette is labeled version 2.55 from www.intel.com (actual NIC driver version is 3.1)
8) Once OS/LAN Server connections tested: Added FixPak- FP 38; tested warm/cold boot
9) Next added FixPak- MPTS WO8610 and tested warm/cold boot
10) Installed M64OS2.ZIP ATI driver after all FixPaks; set video to 1024 by 768 by 64K colors; this ATI OS/2 video driver is available from Dell Server Support
11) PERC 2/SC is an entry level single channel RAID PCI controller; it does not have alerting via the dual channel PERC's PEDGEMON.EXE although that does appear to work; the OS/2 array manager program to use with this entry level RAID controller is different from the PERC and is named PEDGE2SC.EXE
12) The Dell PERC 2/SC is not picked up by the OS/2 Cert utility. The Dell PERC 2/SC was tested for RAID 5 rebuild and reboot by pulling one drive out while doing disk activity; the drive was then re-inserted after the alarm sounded from the controller (Yes, PEDGEMON declared a failure also); the PEDGE2SC.EXE array utility was run to check drive status and the drive was labeled FAIL just as PEDGEMON had declared; the utility was used to silence the alarm and to manually start a rebuild; rebuild completed and the system was then warm and cold booted to test RAID 5 recovery which worked with no errors. The PERC 2/SC driver and OS/2 array manager program will be included inside PERC2SC.ZIP and can be obtained at www.dell.com in the "File Library" area. The bottom drive was failed for Domain Controller testing; the middle drive was failed during Additional Server testing.
