Additional Configuration Information:

*NOTE:*
This certification is with the Dell Dual Channel PERC using Firmware UC77 Dell
Part Number 4389D; older versions of this same controller CARD are not usable
on the PE 6300 PowerEdge Servers. The same PEDGE.ADD driver dated 5-13-97 was used as on previous PowerEdge Servers being OS/2 Certified.

Installation/Configuration Notes:

1) Required: Place the Dell Dual Channel PERC in one of the four 64 BIT PCI BUS Slots.
2) Card Placements: PERC at 64 BIT PCI slot #4, NIC at 64 BIT PCI slot #6.
3) RAID Level Used: three physical drivers making one logical RAID 5 drive.
4) CMOS- Changed serial ports from AUTO to COM1 and COM2 respectively; turned BOTH Primary onboard PCI SCSI OFF; booted from slot devices High to Low but not required; rebooted directly to review and check resources used in Resource Configuration Utility.
5) RCU- Verified no interrupt sharing between PERC, NIC and secondary onboard PCI SCSI; saved and turned power off when counting memory; (changes to RCU require a cold-boot).
6) On 2nd install diskette, changed SCSI drivers to use those from FixPak 38; because PCI BUS is faster than older systems, the OS/2 CD's drivers are out of date; new ones are required to enable CDROM data transfers to copy all files and copy correctly to hard drive: OS2DASD.DMD, AIC7870.ADD, OS2CDROM.DMD, CDFS.IFS, OS2SCSI.DMD and HPFS.IFS; TESTCFG.SYS from FixPak 38 was also used on the install diskette. During AND after the installation, all these drivers were confirmed and/or re-copied so that the system used only NEW drivers during the installation and prior to installing FixPaks.
7) Chose SuperVGA for video and accepted the incorrect Ethernet driver OS/2 chose, then
changed driver to Intel Pro100+ **AFTER** OS/2 was installed and booted from hard drive. Intel driver diskette is labeled version 2.55 from www.intel.com (this is not the driver version).
8) Domain Controller: Once OS/LAN Server connections tested: Added FixPak- FP 38; tested warm/cold boot; Next added FixPak- MPTS WO8610 for test suite stability and tested warm/cold boot. Tested RAID failure/recover procedure after cert tests.
9) Additional Server: Once Os/LAN Server connections tested: Added FixPak WO8610 for test suite stability. Added FixPak 38 later after base tests passed. For stability and for working towards Y2K compliancy, it is strongly urged that customers add FixPak 38 or higher. FixPak 40 and LAN Distance IP08606 were applied when LAN Distance failed intermitently but a different physical motherboard resolved that, so they may not have been needed. Tested RAID failure/recover procedure again after cert tests.
10) Installed M64OS2.ZIP ATI high resolution video driver after all FixPaks; set video to 1024 by 768 by 64K colors; this ATI OS/2 AGP video driver is available on request from Dell Server Support.
11) The Dell PERC is not picked up by the OS/2 Certification utility as a full RAID capable controller. The Dell PERC was tested for RAID 5 rebuild and reboot by pulling one drive out while doing disk activity; the drive was then re-inserted after PEDGEMON declared a failure; the DELLCONF.EXE array utility was run to check drive status and the first drive was labeled FAIL just as PEDGEMON had declared; the utility was used to silence the alarm as the rebuild started automatically. Rebuild completed and the system was then warm and cold booted to test RAID 5 recovery which worked with no errors. The PERC driver and utilties are included inside OS2PERC.ZIP and can be obtained at www.dell.com in the "File Library" area. One other utility is PERCSNMP.EXE which uses TCP/IP to send out SNMP alerts. The PEDGEMON.EXE array monitoring utility has been enhanced to not only report to FFST Log but also to send alerts to Netfinity/Systemview. These other PERC utilities are in another ZIP file and can be requested fro
m Dell's NOS Support Group. They are also on the Dell Server Assistant CD.
12) One, two and four CPU's were tested initially; once stable, all four CPU's were used
during certification testing. Although /PREC=ILD might have been necessary on the OS2APIC.PSD line in the config.sys, no switches were needed.
