13/11/2005 Security Vulnerability with Fash 7a R15 / 19 and Howto implement the current Flash 7 version R61 (Posted by R) Hello, working with Flash release 5 is out of question. Just surf the web and the you will find, most of the flash "designed" web sides are not accessible to you. Fortunately an improved port leaked to the real world. ( flash7.zip flash7a.zip ) Be ware, the distribution of the Macromedia DLL is a licence/copyright violation. The copyright of the interface DLL is by Innotek. ( My option on the legal situation ) The currently R19 ist the "used" version in the OS/2 world. This is highly dangerous!! Just one example: http://www.tgdaily.com/2005/11/08/flash_highly_critical_vulnerability/ From version R19 to version R61 are quite a few numbers between! Howto upgrade your system to the current level of Version 7 Flash R61. 1. Download the Windows Version 7 from http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=d9c2fe33 2. Run the installation on your real or VPC guest windows system with an installed Mozilla/Firefox browser. 3. Save the your current version NPSWF2.DLL to NPSWFW2.sav NPSWF32.DLL to NPSWF32.save 4. Replace the NPSWF32.DLL with the version from your wondows system 5. Modify NPSWF2.DLL an an HEX Editon ( e. g. HE2101 form Hobbes ) Replace string "r15" by "r61" 6. Comp NPSWF2.DLL and NPSWFW2.sav The DLL should be equal the exception of on Byte. 7. shut down, reboot 8. Mozilla / Firefox About:plugins should show the new verison R61 9. Test the Flash function with http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/ Test: Macromedia Flash Player The Flash version should be at R61 If you currently do not user the Mozilla / Firefox Extensions - Adblock - Flashblock do an evalaation !!! I recommend the usage!! https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=10 http://flashblock.mozdev.org/installation.html ( I have installed the version 1.3.3a ) Tip: Flash Player 8.0 does not work if you use Adblock with OBJ-TABS enabled Due to increased security in Flash Player 8.0, enabling OBJ-TABS in Adblock will result in no Flash content being displayed. The only workaround at this time is to disable OBJ-TABS. For the future we need version 8 of Flash on OS/2 eCs. Perhaps Macromedia has now a different view to the request/deal. It is now part of Adobe ! A topic in the todo list of Bob St.John ???
