There were 3 reasons for this: 1) Reduced hardware costs 2) Reduced power consumption 3) Absolute control over Standard Operating Environments, (SOE). Obviously we are also introducing a single point of failure:- the RIPL server. If that screws we have also lost our Internet gateway You could argue why not make one server for: file server RIPL Server Internet Gateway But that sounds like too many eggs in one basket at the moment. What I want to know is I'm really looking to support 2 strains of OS/2: Warp 4 fully FixPaked to TCP/IP v4.21 eCS I make Warp Servers on OS/2 Warp 4, viz: OS/2 Warp 4 fully FixPaked with LAN Server 5.00 installed on it. I heard somewhere that the RIPL server doesn't work on an OS/2 Warp 4 codebase.
