Well, I have several "enhancers" installed and while these have been OK up until now, perhaps they are no longer compatible with the current (FP15) Build of Warp ? Since I have disabled these programs I have not had a hang. The programs in question are: X-File Warp Enhancer Candybar NPS WPS Enhancer LW-Switch Has anyone else experienced problems with any of these under FP15 or CP versions of OS/2 Warp 4 ? Also can anyone recommend an alternative ? What I'd like to have are the following features from these packages: Better file open dialog with the ability to create directories as in X-File. Extended Shutdown dialog with Shutdown and Shutdown & restart as options as in Warp Enhancer. Mouse pointer centres to active button on dialog with focus as in NPS WPS Window shadows as in NPS WPS would be "nice" but not essential. Alt+tab to show list of open windows tht can be switched to (like in W95) and as in LWSwitch. The main point is that these additions should (ideally) be from one product that is less likely to imapact the stability of Warp s WPS. Thanks for any suggestions Cheers/2 Ed. 3============================================= From: "Robert Traynor (BobT)" Date: Sat, 09 Jun 2001 10:56:25 +1000 (EST) Subject: Re: [os2genau] Warp "enhancers" Hi ED, On Sat, 09 Jun 2001 09:51:35 +1000, Ed Durrant wrote: >As you will have seen from a previous post I am getting hangs on some >of my Warp systems, especially when doing things like opening Drives >through the graphical Drives manager. >Well, I have several "enhancers" installed and while these have been >OK up until now, perhaps they are no longer compatible with the current >(FP15) Build of Warp ? >Since I have disabled these programs I have not had a hang. >The programs in question are: >X-File Have not used/tried out for years, was not impressed. >Warp Enhancer Used to cause some kind of erratic behaviour, but as I did not bother to continue with its use, I cannot recall what I found wrong with it. Although I have just this minute, uninstalled XWorkPlace, you might want to try the very latest version. It has not given me any problem except for its own version of a rapid shutdown and has a lot of features. The advantage is that it is still being developed and not dead in the water like Xfile and CandyBarz. I only uninstalled because:- (a) I am going to try the later version soon, (b) I wanted to see how well WarpIn handled the uninstall procedure. Conclusion, uninstall was relatively smooth and can be done by brain dead Windows user on second introduction to Os2.! Although it still needs a little work before it deserves the title "Os2 Universal Installer/Uninstaller". I think WarpIn is very promising. My system is Warp 4 fixpack #15, Device Fixpack #2, with every Daniella driver she has written installed. Also using Latest IBM Approved kernal fixes, "W40508.ZIP" _NOT_ the Testcase ones. Programs include RSJ 3.57 and BA2000 server version backup utility, Henk's Os2Fat32 drivers and everything I can load/install/run in Os/2. I was having problems with the wifes W98 machine and eventually tracked it down to a hardware/software incompatibility with the 1gig SCSI drive I had installed as a secondary. To cut a long story short I pulled a 1gig IDE drive out of my machine and chucked it in, reloaded W98 and the machine is running no probs. The problem I have is that in my haste to fix the machine I forgot that the 1gig IDE had my boot manager installed on it. It was originally the C: drive (klutz). I put the 1 gig SCSI back in my machine but I now have a completely fritzed drive letter allocation, no boot manager and an unbootable system. Can anyone offer me any suggestions about how to either get my previous OS/2 install running again or if I have to re-install putting it back on one of the SCSI drives again. I am at a bit of a loss as to how to do all this and would appreciate any assistance. To make it even curlier I also want to save all the data that currently resides on the IDE drives as it took me ages to download some of those songs from Napster and I can't get them that way anymore. When fdisk complains about corrupt partition table entries, it often means that the definition on an IDE drive in the systems bios has been changed. There are two or three ways bios can see drives greater than 540 MB - could you have changed this - possibly by doing an autoconfigure of installed drives ?? To get data off before trying any "patches" to the partition - see if you have space on a drive (not the primary) and see if you can copy the C: drive when you have booted from floppy. Cheers/2 Ed. All the credit for making Sane 1.0.5 so easy to compile under OS/2 must go to Franz Baken who has managed to get most of the changes for compiling under OS/2 included in the base code, and has documented the other changes at http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan/sane105.htm Thanks also to Ed Durrant for his patience and help whilst I tried to compile Canon support into Sane. As for installing the driver, you need to follow the direction pendanticly. And as the directions are slightly ambigious or unclear it generally takes a few attempts before complete success. There should not be any message about creating a printer object, because that should already exist. You are only changing the driver for that object. There is an easy way to install a printer driver which creates a new printer object on the desktop, maybe that is what you are trying to do. The disadvantage with that method is that your original driver still exists and confuses the hell out of some applications.
