There are many versions of Mozilla/2 aka Warpzilla. Versions 0.6x 0.8x and 0.9x being the most commonly used. 0.6x is the version that the current IBM Browser is based and is roughly equivalent to Netscape 5 for Windows. Versions 0.8x and 0.9x (0.92 being the very latest) are equivalent to Netscape 6. The IBM Browser is based on Mozilla 0.6x but has had additions such as support for security extentions, Flash support and (importantly) links to Java 1.3. None of the versions simply go to the OS for Java Support as Netscape/2 2.02, 4.04 and 4.61 do. You have to have plugins added in to do this. Using the IBM Browser this is part of the install (although I seem to remember when I installed it didn't work 100% and I had to do a minor change). As I said the IBM Browser works with Java 1.3 (as well as 1.18 I think). The basic Mozilla/2 builds only worked with Java 1.18 although this may have changed in the 0.9x versions. You need to have the following plugins installed to get Java to work: NPNULOS2.DLL - This is to stop the you need the plugin loader plugin messages. NPJAVA.DLL - This is the one used with the IBM Browser for JAVA 1.3, I don't know what the equivalent would be for the basic Mozilla/2 or for JAVA 1.18 If you want to install fixpacks etc. directly from the Web (and you have a broadband connection or lots of time) then you'll also need NPFI.DLL for the feature installer. Hope all this helps. I've just realised that since installing the latest Mozilla/2 version I've also lost Java support, so I guess I'l have to start configuring again or I might simply stay with the IBM Browser. After losing my desktop 3 years ago, I waded thru the newsgroups and found similar problems. The fix was as above and with the aid of a CMD file (as you said) to fix the Desktop ID problem and later running WPTOOLS, also UNIMAINT, to ensure full health of the os2 INI files. The concensus at the time was that the statement only reinforces what is the default in the os2.ini file and can do no harm. I regularly use UNIMAINT and WPTOOLS and have never lost the DESKTOP ID since. I am still running SET desktop=D:\DESKTOP and have been for more than 2 years. Somewhere I had a file with an IBM'er saying that SET desktop=D:\DESKTOP should be in all os2 Config.sys files. If I can find it again, I will post it. Could you state who says it is harmfull.? Maybe I made myself not clear enough, so, I say again: leaving the entry for ever in the config is dangerous, as you won't be aware of ini file problems unless it's to late. After the fix has been done, the entry has to be removed, it's that what I'm saying. > I regularly use UNIMAINT and WPTOOLS and have never lost the DESKTOP ID since. > I am still running SET desktop=D:\DESKTOP and have been for more than 2 years. > I presume you haven't much of deep nested folders. > > Somewhere I had a file with an IBM'er saying that SET desktop=D:\DESKTOP > should be in all os2 Config.sys files. > If I can find it again, I will post it. > Please do. > Could you state who says it is harmfull.? As long as the desktop ID isn't lost, there will be no harm. When due to some uncertain reason the desktop-id gets lost, you won't be aware of it, due to the set desktop= statement. However, after 1 at 2 months you'll notice your objects begin to disappear one after another. And at that stage no recovery is possible, unless you do have Unimaint made desktop backups. To say again, the set desktop= statement is in no way responsable for a lost desktop ID. It may just cover the problem unduly. -- Groeten uit Gent, Kris
