Hi all! I have spent a goodly amount of precious time again learning why I love OS/2. I have to have a Win95 partition on my laptop (IBM TP760EL). On my main OS/2 desktop machine (here where I am now typing this email) I have a nice HP-6L - works REAL fine. I have various printer objects in my OS/2 Printers folder: HP-Laserjet, connected to LPT1 and Postscript, printing to file (for creating PDFs with Ghostscript), with others not germaine to this problem. On the laptop when I connect it to the LAN, I can create a Printer which happily connects to the HP-Laserjet on LPT1. However, when I create a separate printer for Postscript output I cannot persuade Win95 that there is a network and that the printer is to be found *out there* on the wire. That is, as I said in , Win95 is detached from reality. The Printer is always required to work offline. It also has a split personality because half of it can find the HP but the other half can't find the Postscript. The rest of it (via My Computer) can easily find the shared drives. I can't use the wizard to find the network because Network Neighbourhood is simply in a world of its own. If I start from Network Neighbourhood I can see the Postscript, start the stupid wizard but it still tells me the printer is offline. I can even create a shortcut to the Psotscript but that doesn't make a scrap of difference. This email is an attempt to avoid having Win 95 pass it's stupid personality problems over to me, by asking for help on this list. John, Do you have administrator rights when you are trying to install the printer ? I take it you're trying to access a printer that is shared from an OS/2 Server (or Peer) box ? This can be done - we do it allthe timre at work. The usual "gotcha" is that you don't have full administrator rights when setting up the printer. Once set up you don't need this level of acces, user is normally fine (as long as the printer share is set to give Create access to the USERS group). Perhaps you should use LPT3: ??? i.e. a non-existant port ? > > However, when I create a separate printer for Postscript output I > cannot persuade Win95 that there is a network and that the printer is > to be found *out there* on the wire.
