There's also a mention on the legalities of a DVD movie player. I'm not up to date on the Linix project and therefore haven't heard whether the law suits were won/lost or dropped. If the DVD consortium sees the DeCSS program as a threat, they will undoubtably find any ports a threat as well. There is nothing stopping us from having DVD video legally other than the cost. We have the talent afterall. Now all we need is the cash :-) Cheers On Wed, 26 Sep 2001 10:39:59, voytekatsbt dot net dot au wrote: >** Reply to note from "Gavin Miller" Wed, 26 Sep 2001 10:09:23 -0400 (EDT) > > >> Check out this: >> >> http://www.os2ezine dot com/v5n1/dvd.html >> >> It should answer a few questions. > >well, not really, basically, he is asking same what I have, >'that it would be nice to have an OS/2 DVD player' > >as for OS/2 reading DVD data, my ancient Thinkpad and, plain old Warp4, could do >that 3 years ago, there was no need for anything else. > >perhaps it was a Thinkpad specific driver, as, the UDF stuff didn't come till >later, but, it most certainly read DVD data. > >initially, I used to plug in the Thinkpad into TV set to watch movies, howver, with >cost of players dropping rapidly I ended purchasing an 'appliance' DVD player > >Voytek > 4============================================== Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 11:02:26 From: voytekatsbt dot net dot au Subject: Re: [os2genau] DVD Player for OS/2 ?? ** Reply to note from "Gavin Miller" Wed, 26 Sep 2001 10:53:24 -0400 (EDT) > There's also a mention on the legalities of a DVD movie player. Grey matter getting older. How do I tell how much memory os/2 sees. I think I may have mixed 64 meg ecc sdram and 64 meg non ecc, the bios shows 128 meg, (although if it was all ecc there would not be enough room to display the characters 128 meg ECC SDRAM). thanks, steve
