Hi All, I have a single pentium 3 machine running eCS GA v1.0 and wish to pose the question:- Which kernel "UNI" or "Warp4" should I use.? I assume I should use the w40914.zip as eCS is probably at a code base level equivalent to IBm Client Convenience Pack. I have actually tried them both, and both equally seem to make a very slight improvement over the GA kernels. Using uni0914.zip and w40914.zip. I am currently on "UNI" and cannot tell the difference between them at all. Perhaps Ian Manners could advise, are you there Ian? Hi Bob >I have a single pentium 3 machine running eCS GA v1.0 and wish to >pose the question:- Which kernel "UNI" or "Warp4" should I use.? Strictly speaking, the Warp 4 Kernal w40914.zip though a lot of people are using the UNI kernal as there logic is that eCS is based on WSeB. Both work. Remember that IBM have bought the code base together as of Warp4 FP13. Remember that w40914.zip is a testcase kernal (works fine for me), and that w40508.zip (or UNI version) is the last 'official' release from IBM. >I assume I should use the w40914.zip as eCS is probably at >a code base level equivalent to IBm Client Convenience Pack. >I am currently on "UNI" and cannot tell the difference between them at all. The UNI kernal contains some Server specific code, thats the only difference, and unless you have a program (example, TCP/IP using DDNS etc) that will use these server calls, there is no difference. >Perhaps Ian Manners could advise, are you there Ian? Just got to this line :-) Cheers Ian B Manners http://www.os2site dot com/ If Bill Gates had a dime for every time a Windows box crashed... oh, wait. He does. 3============================================== From: "Robert Traynor (BobT)" Date: Sat, 06 Oct 2001 14:33:42 +1000 (EST) Subject: Re: [os2genau] Kernals for eCS - UNI or Warp4 ? Thanks Ian for quick response. I will probably go back to the Warp4 kernels, just to be kosher and correct. > >I have a single pentium 3 machine running eCS GA v1.0 and wish to > >pose the question:- Which kernel "UNI" or "Warp4" should I use.? > > Strictly speaking, the Warp 4 Kernal w40914.zip though a lot of > people are using the UNI kernal as there logic is that eCS is > based on WSeB. Hi Bob >Thanks Ian for quick response. >I will probably go back to the Warp4 kernels, just to be kosher and correct. One advantage I forgot to mention, the Warp 4 kernal uses slightly less memory, which I guess with todays PC isnt important. Remember to read the readme for the latest kernal, the CLOCKSCALE=4 in your config does speed up Netscape, seems to make Apache more lively as well. Date: Sat, 6 Oct 2001 18:19:41 +1000 Thanks for your replies re connecting OS/2 WARP 4.0 to OptusatHome. Am I right in thinking that there is very little I can download to update my system unless I purchase a "Software Choice" subscription from IBM? Can anyone let me know what such a subscription costs in Australia? I cannot seem to find the cost information on IBM Australia's website.
