Hi Gavin >Doesn't Helvetica come with just about every OS that uses ATM ( or TT ) fonts??? Yes, except Linux. IBM, Microsoft, and others pay a licence fee to LinoType for the use of those fonts, and the use of those font names by default. Now, the politically correct piece ;-) If you use the word 'Helvetica' (Helvetica is a registered TM of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Linotype)) You must include the TradeMark information with the word. Linotype OWNs the word Helvetica. So my friend, you have just broken the TradeMark laws by not including the Trademark information in your email. Watch out, the font police might get you :-| Wonder what sort of mess the world is going to be in when the International Trademark laws come into effect ! Still curious as to why they started with me, and not the bigger sites hosting the fonts. If the story progress's, I'll be creating a webpage with the information on it during the next week. Also including links to the stories of others. Sorry Trevor, I know you have the whole Slater & Gordon disclaimer thing happening, but I quit studying law since it was apparent to me that the law was slowly but surely dissapearing up it's own clacker. This whole name registration and trademark fiasco is just one example; a humourous one I grant you; but an example it is :-) Cheers guys Gavin 10============================================== From: "Gavin Miller" Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 22:00:30 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: [os2genau] The perils of web hosting. Hi Ian, The little fish are easier to turn into fish paste. This is another example of what the legal system is like (see reply to Trev's "and so it begins" ). That's why they have targeted your small site rather than attack larger organisations that might have greater access to legal experts. Of coarse this is just MY opinion; I don't have any facts to support this, but it makes sense to me. As I said (in reply to Trev) I quit studying law. :-) Cheers Gavin
