After what happened to me, I switched to Woolworths Ezybanking, and I have no problems with Netscape 4.61/Java 1.1.8, but do get a "broken pipe" from time-to-time with Mozilla (the latest) and Java 1.3.1. I do have an account with you-know-who, and after getting a free card holder, they told me "...to expect great things with other OS's on August the 26th..." Maybe they've been spying on us? :-) Meanwhile, this is what afriend in Canada said: ------------------- The odd thing is, that an organization that is supposed to look after money, is stupid enough to fall for the expensive way to do business. From what I understand, most of the banks, in North America (the US, and Canada), use OS/2 for their online banking support. You would think that their IT departments would know enough to support OS/2, and test things with OS/2, but that is not always the case. I think the major problem is that they think they are getting a superior service, if the contract things, like web site creation, out to companies like Microsoft. That works okay, for those who have been brainwashed into using a Microsoft OS, but the rest of the people end up being left out in the cold. ----------------------- What do you think? There appears to be quite a large list of banks that _do_ work well with non MS/IE tools. So which [1] banks are we actually talking about? Its sort of sounding like banks that aren't following open standards are going to have their customers, at least the ones that have a clue, tell them to stick their accounts! Mind you _I_ should talk. My mortgage provider doesn't even do email let alone MS specific web pages, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a back room full of people slaving over hot abacuses grinding out statements :). Having said that though I can add that Bank West works fine with anything that does ssl (128bit), apparently including ssl enabled lynx! (haven't tried this). I believe they have pretensions to WAP. So which [1] >banks are we actually talking about? 12 to 24 months ago, most of these banks I think got sucked into Microsoft centric solutions, since then, after letters from the ACCC and Banking Ombudsman, and rational thinking it looks like every thing has changed for the better. Banks want to reach the broadest customer base, as lots of little disgruntled customers can add up to a lot of money, and providing one solution is the cheap way to do things. I was pretty tipped to be asked to be on the NAB's pilot program with there new software, as prior to that, I couldnt use net banking, and there latest OnLine business banking would nolonger run under Win-OS/2 so I was forced to setup a seperate PC for OnLine Banking, as I dont like dual boot setups. >Its sort of sounding like banks that aren't following open standards are >going to have their customers, at least the ones that have a clue, tell >them to stick their accounts! I believe they have pretensions to WAP. Bankwest have always worked, they are very standards based, and arent afraid of asking companys like IBM and NCR for strict standards based solutions, I still have my BW accounts though stopped using them as I'm now in Melbourne, I believe you can now access accounts a lot easier via Post Offices for things like deposits. IMHO keep the motto as short and to the point as possible. Motto's with double meaning always seem to get more attention that a simple statement. Again IMHO colours should be bright and positive and friendly. A bright colour gets the readers attention and the initial look is important. we could try one with colours that simply don't go together, to get the "what the !" reaction.
