And boy, havent I had some great customers today ! Working for Primus has mad me apreciate the OS/2 users whom really do take a bit more time to understand the basics of things, gad, I am really starting to had Windows users. Did I tell the list about the irate father that rang up just after I started at iPrimus, and threatened to ring Microsurf to ensure I was fired because I wouldnt help him and his daughter access her hotmail account ? I gave him the MS Australia number :-) PS No more replys with the bit about tel adm, as each one gets bounced back to ME saying its undeliverable due to a virus. Has anybody successfully installed and used the latest release of , please? I downloaded all 19Mb (thank heavens for cable!!) from our local Hobbes mirror (thanks os2site dot com!!), but I can't get it going. Yes, I have made a fresh installation as the docs say. When I cIick on the object I receive the standard OS/2-eCS message box "Cannot start ..." with the usual 5 options including missing component DLL (quite likely) and the question: "Do you wish to modify the properties for the object?" In CONFIG.SYS I have the following set: REM *** Mozilla-Firebird *** SET MOZILLA_HOME=H:\MOZPROFILES SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=H:\MOZPROFILES\PLUGINS being the same as for the earlier version 0.6, which still functions correctly. There are no path statements relevant to either version. I will shutdown and reboot just in case... but stay tuned. After above, no change. So I retain use of 0.6 version only. Any help appreciated. Not an issue here. >Also you may need additional gcc DLLs that I belive you can download from the Innotek site. Yes, and no. Got their little package of runtime (25K - nice!) but it wasn't enough. Back to Mozilla.Org Finally found my way to Mozilla 1.5 OS/2 Builds aka Warpzilla http://www.mozilla dot org/ports/os2/ where there is a link to the larger package of 2 DLLs. The link is marked as 'C runtime DLLs' http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/libc01.zip but don't be fussed by the reference to Mozilla 1.5. It is required for Firebird as well. These DLLs totalling about 250Kb can be loaded into any suitable place in your path - mine are in D:\EXTRADLL - and MF061 obediently fires up: subjectively I notice a little faster on my humble 64Mb machine. Thanks Ed for your alertness. Memo to Ian as custodian of os2site dot com/software and Hobbes mirror. It would be nice to have libc01.zip in with the Firebird entry in Incoming, wouldn't it? Now my only deficiency is Java. How did the other cities fair ? fwiw, just came across a book, something about 'greatest blunders', and, OS/2 made (quite substantial) chapter 2. as I didn't feel like spending A$50 for it, I quickly perused it, it had quite detailed history of rise and demise of OS/2 other chapters were about Ashton Tate, Phillipe Khan, Ray Noorda, Jim Manzi (I think) and I forgot the rest Voytek Eymont SBT Information Systems Pty Ltd http://www.sbt dot net dot au/links/ phone +61-2 9310-1144 fax +61-2 9310-1118 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 9 ==========================** Date: Wed, 06 Aug 2003 20:42:01 +1000 From: Ed Durrant Subject: Re: Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 John Angelico wrote: > On Wed, 06 Aug 2003 17:33:05 +1000, Ed Durrant wrote: > > Hi Ed. > > >>There's been a whole string of mails on this subject on either the warpbrowsers or >>ecomstation lists (or perhaps both?) Innotek Java is working fine with Mozilla 1.5a here - didn't work with the earlier GCC builds. Goldencode Java doesn't yet have a plugin, but apparently the Innotek OJI plugin can be pointed at the install directory for Goldencode Java and it works :) Cheers, Paul. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 11 ==========================** Date: Wed, 06 Aug 2003 21:07:04 +1000 (AEST) From: "John Angelico" Subject: Re: Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 On Wed, 06 Aug 2003 20:42:01 +1000, Ed Durrant wrote: > >> Hmmm, not on either list. > >Must be !
