Unfortunately I have to go away intermittently for the next few months, so I need to be able to set up my computers in the following fashion. Current Setup: Molly 192.168.1.5, Win2K Trevayne 192.168.1.1, Warp FP12, Weasel, Internet Gateway I wish to access the Internet from Molly. I have in place the scripts from David Forrester (many thanks for that) to start and connect with Injoy through a browser. BUT, I cannot see the Internet from Molly. They can successfully share files printer etc, so it is just the ability to get from Molly through Trevayne to get out onto the Internet which is the problem. Any help will be more than appreciated Glenn Montgomery ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 2 ==========================** Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2003 02:03:33 +1100 From: Daryl Pilkington Subject: Re: Printer recommendation Hi John, WARNING***WARNING***WARNING Drivers are critical for photo printing. The C63 is a 4 cartridge printer not really similiar to the C61. I did some OS/2 printing tests with the C61 whilst working for Epson. Perhaps David could check exactly what model printers the Epson Omni drivers support but the Epson drivers I used didn't fully support the high resolution the C61 was capable of. David then mentions the eCS drivers, err best to ask him exactly which one he is using. I'd suggest going for a 4 cartridge printer using Pigment based inks. Pigment inks are less water soluble that dye-based inks meaning they smudge less with finger prints. Look at Epson Australia's website regarding "Dura-Brite" inks, these are the inks I'm talking about. The other *huge* problem is colour management under eCS-OS/2, please, somebody prove me wrong, but I don't think it exists. Without colour management tools, you will have a long, painful path to achieve accurate colour printing. What image editing application will you be using? GIMP is a currently well-supported app, I know some people are still using ColorWorks 2. I would suggest finding out what colour management tools are in these apps, ColorWorks was an excellent app, but is no longer being developed. There is a Java one too, but for colour management, gee I don't know... David Shearer wrote: > I just bought an EPSON C61 - currently on sale at Tandy for only $98 (saving of $50). The solution was provided by Wayne on the eComStation news group news://news.ecomstation.nl/ecomstation.support.install : If you look at the descriptions in Sound object in the System Setup folder, you'll see that it says something like "Closing Window (Animated)" Well, Window Animation is OFF by default in eCS 1.1! I just found it out while looking through the System setup dialogue (also in the System Setup folder)! Go to the 'Window' tab and turn on Animation and the sounds magically reappear!!! This printer is widely available and discounted in the U.S. (Usually under $99USD). The 820 is a 4 color cartridge (plus black) so the colors are bit better then non-photo printers. The ink cartridges are pricey though and I have yet to find a generic cart that works right in the 820. However only a max of 1440DPI is supported (printer claims 2880DPI), but the photo printing is really excellent, about as good under MacOS9, but not quite as good definition. Also the print cleaning and head alignment utilities built into the EPOMNI3 don't work with the 820. Has anyone had any luck running any of the newer Epson Photo printers that have the built-in media card slots? I use eCs 1.1. And it allows you to select "advanced photo" "photo" "text/graph" "economy". The advanced photo option uses fine-1440dpi as does photo but text/graph uses 720dpi. economy uses draft setting. It has a whole range of paper types to select. I would say you have overall the equivalent of the WinXP driver capability. (well the XP Driver gives you a utility which tells you how much ink is left in the tank which the eCs driver does not). I tried printing two photos (WinXP vs eCs) and they didn't seem much different to me. Admittedly, if you are after a higher quality printer look elsewhere but I would rate this one much bette than teh usual entry level fare eg Canon. At $98 I am not complaining - I could have bought a canon s200sp which are going for $76 at the moment but I am sure the print quality isn't the same as the epson and the cartridges to replace on the canon's are more expensive than the printer itself. Several seem to have disappeared from IBM's servers for some reason but can be found on Epson's European FTP server . All of the EPOMNI drivers use to be found on IBM Japan's FTP site - (Though it appears they have thinned those directories out and most of the EPOMNI drivers left are Japanese versions.), on IBM's DDPakOnline and on Epson's European FTP server The original EPOMNI (12-03-1998) (Available from or ) supports the following: Epson Color Stylus 600 Epson Color Stylus 800 Epson Color Stylus 850 Epson Color Stylus 1520 Epson Color Stylus 3000 Epson Stylus Photo Epson Stylus Photo EX Epson Stylus Photo 700 EPOMNI2 (07-01-1999) (Available from ), supports the following (This driver used to be named ep2en.zip): Stylus Color 640 Stylus Color 740 Stylus Color 900 Stylus Photo 1200 Stylus Photo 750 EPOMNI3 (05-01-2000) ( Available from or or ) supports the following: Epson Stylus Color 660 Epson Stylus Color 760 Epson Stylus Color 860 Epson Stylus Color 1160 Epson Stylus Photo 870 Epson Stylus Photo 1270 EPOMNI4 (08-01-2000) (Available from or ), supports the following: Epson Stylus Color 670 Epson Stylus Color 680 Epson Stylus Color 777 Epson Stylus Color 880 Epson Stylus Color 980 EPOMNI5 (08-01-2001) is available as a Japanese only release (Available at ) From the Japanese readme, the following are supported: üEEPSON PM-780C üEEPSON PM-880C üEEPSON PM-3500C üEEPSON PM-900C An English version of the EPOMNI5 driver which has support for the C60/C70/C80 (including the currently available C82) models was released in June 2002. There was supposed to be a new EPOMNI driver from Epson Japan but I have recently heard that work on it was stopped, so it appears there will be no new Epson models supported unless IBM takes over the support. :-( Mark In <0077590540.0000079R at [192.168.0.3]>, on 12/30/03 at 09:33 PM, "John Angelico" said: >b) How/where do I obtain EPOMNI3 driver set? >(says he just after tearing off to the IBM Device Driver Online site - >successfully downloaded EPOMNI EPOMNI4 and EPOMNI5) >I have installed the OMNI.DRV version 30.797 from the latest round of >updates -- From the eComStation Desktop of: Mark Dodel Warpstock 2003 - See the video and presentations: http://www.warpstock dot org For a choice in the future of personal computing, Join VOICE - http://www.os2voice dot org "The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself.
