I did find a problem in the installation in that the pathname for the properties contained a %20 for a space. Once I changed the %20 to a space I could use the WPS object to run OpenOffice. Haven't had much of a chance to play yet, so cannot comment on its functionality. The only comments I have are that it is quite slow (expected for a beta version) and it appears to be chunky in the screen presentation. regards Ken Paul Smedley wrote: > For those that haven't seen this yet, OpenOffice v1.1 Beta 1 is now > available for OS/2 & eCS from > http://www.innotek.de/products/openofficeos2/beta/ > > From that page: > A joint effort between Serenity Systems and InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH > > OpenOffice for OS/2 is a port of the well known product to the > eComStation and OS/2 Warp platforms with special support for InnoTek's > font engine for OS/2. > > To try out the beta, you have to download and install three products: > > * InnoTek Font Engine for OS/2 Version 2.10 Preview 2 > * InnoTek Runtime for OS/2 Preview 1 > * OpenOffice 1.1 for OS/2 Beta 1 > > Please download and install the order given above. Well, folks, I finally took the plunge and went with David's recommendation. Install went smoothly, drivers were fine (EP5US.ZIP was the relevant one), although we fiddled around a bit and accidentally have the drivers installed on three machines: a) server where the printer is local b) two machines which use it across Netbeui peer. Caution for anyone on eCS 1.1x without the latest "install local printer" wizard - the original wizard is not a wiz at anything so we recommend not using it. Instead just open up the EPOMNI.DRV in icon view and drag out the relevant printer model object. This starts the same install process as the wizard handles anyway. Drop it into your Printer Objects folder and away you go. MEMO SSI: please forget about wizards (a very personal view). But we cleaned up the installs on the other two machines and they see the network printer which is shared by the server. Works fine. Even DeScribe can print in colour - in graphics frames only, though, not in text frames. Imported graphics in DeScribe look pretty good even on plain paper, and we will shortly try some photo-grade examples. Many thanks Daryl for the cautions about colour management - it helped us avoid shock at the difference between DeScribe graphics on screen and the deeper colours on paper. We have PMView Pro which can handle adjustments for us, so I think we will be OK. Points taken about switching printer on and off, so we plan to have it stay on for a whole week at a time. Thanks again everyone who contributed. Let the ListServ know how you're going using PMView Pro for photo printing. Glad you didn't waste anytime figuring out why Describe wouldn't print colours accurately. I'd be inclined to switch the printer off daily rather than weekly. As I mentioned, if you leave the printer on without printing, it will do a cleaning cycle every so often. Let us know what the cleaning period is, I'd be interested to know. Makes the judgment on daily or weekly turn-off a lot mor objective.
