If you put the CD in any pc booted from hdd & run ipssend, you will see the options & instructions on how to go deeper. This will not hurt anything. I found ipssend.exe in >programs >os2>cmdline on the 4.70 CD. In the books dir, there are pdf files that may help. I am currently using a backup pc so I can't read pdf so I can't look for you. but I did run ipssend without a raid card in the machine. If this doesn't do it for you, give us another yell. It explains for me a guide to which USB scanners are infact supported by TAME/SANE under OS/2. The moral of the story is, if you want to run a USB attached scanner under OS/2, make sure it's a true Epson USB scanner and not a rebadge of a cheaper make. Cheers/2 Ed. On Mon, 26 Jan 2004 06:47:31 -0000, _madbrain_ wrote: >Is there any way to get the Epson Perfection 1670 USB scanner to work with Tame ? Sure, but it's not so simple, There is a 'USB-Version' of sane/2 which is included in the TAME Package. It supports _some_ Epson USB-Scanners. The problem is that there are epson scanners that are 'real' epson scanners and use the 'epson scanner language'. Those scanners are supported by the 'epson-backend' of sane. This 'epson-backend' has been compiled for OS/2 by Maeda H. using VAC-Compiler and is included in TAME. But there are also epson scanners that are no 'real' epson scanners and don't use the 'epson scanner language' The Perfection 1670 for example is such a product. It is supported by sane but uses the 'snapscan-backend'. As far as I know until now nobody has set up an environement that compiles sane including the _snapscan-backend_ and the _sanei/sanei_usb.c_ module that has allready been developed by Maeda H. So somebody has to do it. You have to set up a build environement for sane and ask if you can get sanei_usb.c from Maeda H. If you have some knowledge of compiling C programs and some spare time it should be possible. But most likely it will neither compile nor work 'out of the box' so you have to invest more spare time for debugging. But at the end it's possible that you have your 1670 working under OS/2. If you need help, the guys on the sane-devel mailing list are helpful, and you could ask other people working on open-source-software. Most likely they will try to help you also, but of course the main work has to be done by you.
