Not answered but no - they can all ping each other OK but not the 390E. It looks as if the machine is totally isolated and the existing network has no idea that another machine has been added. > >Are all systems on the same subnet with the same subnet mask ? Hosts is the same on all existing systems: localhost 127.0.0.1 Hosts on the 390E has 127.0.0.1 plus correct IP addresses for all the machines on the rest of the network: 192.168.0.1 2 3 and 4 The 390E is 192.168.0.5 192.168.0.2 is the other laptop 760EL which is rarely on at the same time as the 390E. >I guess you don't have a second, identical card that you could swop in to test for hardware failure ?? No but in a Win98 machine I have used the same card and connector on the same cables to successfully access the ATO website and collect GST data. Unfortunately, I have been unable to decode Windows setups enough to figure out what it does, and to transfer that to eCS. We just tested again by removing 390E and putting 760EL in its place. Plugged card into slot, fired up Netscape, which immediately found a bookmark file on another machine in the network, then went via our local cache on separate machine out to www successfully. >There are *NO* errors at boot up now, right ?? Correct. I'm always nervous about errors in the boot sequence... If so compare driver versions and check what IO address and IRQ you're using on the TP760EL. I still rather think you have an IO or IRQ conflict. Does running rmview /IRQ and rmview /IO without the card in at all and then with the card in indicate and duplication of usage ? cheers/2 Ed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 3 ==========================** Date: Thu, 13 May 2004 23:30:57 +1000 (AEST) From: "John Angelico" Subject: Re: [nb2discuss] Thinkpad 390E Etherjet Progress?? Yes. Exactly. We physically removed the 390 put the 760 in place and plugged in the card. >If so compare >driver versions and check what IO address and IRQ you're using on the TP760EL. The TP760EL is running Win98. As I said, it's not easy to find where Win puts all that stuff. >I still rather think you have an IO or IRQ conflict. >Does running rmview /IRQ and rmview /IO without >the card in at all and then with the card in indicate >and duplication of usage ? No, there is no evidence there of any conflict. We have tried putting the card in each slot, same results. View reports are clearly showing IRQ and IO allocated and then absent when the card is removed. Trying again with Win98. Again, no problems - resources allocated, not real hot swapping as with PC Card Director, but card can be stopped, removed, re-inserted and recognised. Win resources are IRQ9 and IO 1000-100F eCS resources are IRQ5 (not used by sound or LPT) and 0200-020F. No provision for shared memory, so not looking for it. When we tried IRQ3 PCC told us we had a conflict there. Have tested with IRQ 10 and IO base 300 with no further success, but no loss - still able to hot swap card, recognise, and allocate resources. Giving up for the night - dispirited, I'm afraid.
