And it can't be messed with anyway. There are a number of components from third parties (eg. import filters) for which the developer can't obtain copyright release. Therefore it can't be "Open Sourced" in teh way that Mozilla was. If anyone has watched the OpenWatcom process, you might recall it took them 12 months plus to clean up the code and determine the various legalities involved before releasing it. Don't mess with it. this actually reminds about the very first copy of DeScribe I had. It came on, I think, 4 floppies. As I was installing it, I noticed a curious bug: as I moved the pointer outside of the DeScribe install session, the cursor changed... from 'busy' to 'free'. after laughing at how buggy that software was, a curious thought struck me: what if the cursor was actually free outside from that session... and that was my introduction to multi threading and, after all these years, windoze still can't multi thread at best of times. now they got Intel to make multi-threading hardware. why doesn't someone tell then: it's the software, stupid -- Voytek ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 11 ==========================** Date: Mon, 02 Aug 2004 20:47:14 +1000 (AEST) From: "John Angelico" Subject: Re: ot: Office Suites for doze as replacement for MSO, feedback sought On Mon, 2 Aug 2004 19:22:55 +1000 (EST), Voytek Eymont wrote: > >freiherr at earthlink dot net said: >> DeScribe does everyhthing I want or need, above all the others. I use StarOffice to read a Word doc, then if I need to work on it, I convert to rtf and Save As.... Then I read it into DeScribe and go to work on it. I can save rtf in DeScribe (even with revision marking) and send it to the other party quite safely. SO is also good at cleaning up buggy rtf. Occasionally if DeScribe can't handle some rtf doc, into SO it goes... And sometimes, especially for short documents, I can just take a .doc into DeScribe as plain text and throw away all the rubbish. It's great fun seeing how much smaller you can make a document by this process...
