It comes with XP Pro installed and all in the one partition. A complication is that the OS source files are in a hidden partition on the hard drive. Before I learned of the hidden partition I had planed to shrink the XP partition with Partition Magic and then partition the drive and install. Does anyone know the best way of installing eCS without screwing up the existing XP or hidden partition. Regards Dennis. Mr. Dennis J. Well finally, finally I've got those printer drivers cleared. Using John's idea of the Epson 9-pin Printer didn't work for me, as well as deleting the icons, using INIMAINT and deleting the SPOOL entries. Oh, Ed, I *did* find the SPOOL directory. It was in c:\var\spool. Thanks. I dug out a thing called "prndrv.exe" - It came with my original PMFax software, and it lifted the lot, but also killed the drivers for my other printers as well. Re-installing the drivers for one, seems to have fixed that. Re-installed the Network C-65 using the C80 driver. Back to formfeeding again. At this point I'm giving up for the momnet...there seems to be a big difference between the C62 and the C65. It's not a real problem for me....I have a very capable HP DeskJet 500C and Canon S100 here, but it would have been nice to network to the new Epson. Both the former printers come up nicely on XP. I will report my findings to OS2warp.be. Is there anyone else in the heirachy that would be interested, I wonder? Maybe they may release a new driver in the future that may accept the C-65. Anyhow, thanks for all of your help. We'll see what the future brings. But if you are willing to risk it, then you would need to use Partition Magic 8 as the earlier versions will not fully handle the version of NTFS (I presume) that will be in place. If Fat32 then you can use the earlier version 6 also. That said, once you install eCS then you must NOT use PM 8 at all, as it will destroy any and all HPFS partitions. And as others have said, ALL PM products will destroy the LVM signatures in the partition and MBR but this can be overcome and is merely a nuisance. PM 6.01 is the LAST version that had working HPFS support. But it is ok to use PM8 UNTIL you install eCS and from then on, you MUST NOT use PM 8 ever again.! If you want to backup the WinXP and the Hidden partition, you could possibly use an external USB box and use a usb aware imaging program to backup. This can be done from inside XP with Acronis True Image product or from bootable (linux) cd or floppies. And YES you can backup the partition that you run the Acronis TI from, even though WinXP is running. I have not yet done so to an external USB box but I have done it while running XP and saving to another partition and also restored successfully. Ghost 8 also claims USB support, but I have not used it either. Snap "might" support the graphics system in a nonaccelerated form (vesa perhaps) otherwise there are no drivers for OS/2. Same for the sound chips depending on what chip is used. They are just as friendly or unfriendly (according to your taste ) as any other TP NOW. For now all TP do have the very same internals: same audio chip, same video chip, same modem, same nic, same etc--- etc... So the only difference is in the cosmetics: T and X series case are made in Titanium, internal NIC, modem etc could be included or not, the TPp have a better LCD (and hence more video memory), screen size could be 12", 14", 15" ... etc Bottom line: 1. in respect to OS2-eCS all TP have a working: - internal NIC - Audio (soundmax) - working PCMCIA ( but you need cards with drivers too of course) 2. in respect to OS2-eCS all TP have no drivers for: - the internal modem - the internal wireless. After reading and absorbing your advice and going to some of the links that were suggested I am heartened and think that it can be done. If I feel adventurous over the weekend I'll give it a try. It seems that the recovery partition is hidden in the bios and PM 8 wont see or effect it. It also seems that the OEM license is for any version of windows and not restricted to that which is on the recovery partition, so any XP Pro disks can be borrowed to reinstall if needed. So stay tuned for the results. If you can get the technical manual for the printer, it ought to tell you what it expects as command strings. Given that, you could try all of the Epson drivers to see if any create the correct data for your model. You could also try different combinations of "printer specific format" or not etc. I wonder if anyone has done a hardware comparison on the net that lists printers that use the exact same instruction set as yours - then you could see if one of those printers has drivers for OS/2. Then of course there's Win32Prn which uses the Windows driver and Odin to print under OS/2 - this is defintely a "do it yourself" solution that needs a bit of work to make work and at the end apparently it can't support colour printing only black and white. No 2: disable hibernation within XP properties and run Defrag (otherwise XP leaves hibernation "bits" up at the top of what looks like a clear partition space. No 3: Buy DFSee v 7.02 or newer, boot from the CD and use it to resize the XP (NTFS) partition down. No 4: restart and check XP still works - if not restore from the backup that you should have taken "somehow" prior to starting this action !! No 5: boot from Warp 4 CP2 boot CD and go into command line and run LCU to prepare the disk for LVM partitions. No 6. reboot No 7: reboot from Warp 4 CP2 Boot CD and run LVM to A). Install Boot manager and B). create your OS/2 Partition(s) in the space you created earlier. No 8: remove CD and restart - make sure you can select XP in the boot manager - it's very likely at this point that WinXP will run a full checkdisk to "fix" the XP partition - let it. No 9: shutdown and boot from you Install CD (OS/2 Warp 4 or eCS as appropraite) and install the OS to your new partition (s). Done.
