I know Paul and some others will be interested to hear, that the Netlabs USB Webcam capturing software appears to work ! I have bought on eBAY one of the listed webcams - a Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 and pluged it in, fired up the software from netlabs and I got a window where I could see a snapshot of myself ! I then fired up WarpVision, which uses the same driver and I've got a good picture with motion !! Now all we need is some software to run under OS/2 to do the transfer of video and sound. Cheers/2 Ed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 2 ==========================** Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2005 12:46:39 +0200 From: Kris Steenhaut Subject: Re: USB Webcam operational. Webcam's aren't something that excites me but still good to hear that it's working for you. I'm trying to find time at the moment to add usb support to Sane using Markus Montkowski's opensource usbcalls library. Just a problem of not enough hours in the day :( Cheers, Paul. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 4 ==========================** Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2005 20:30:05 +0930 From: Paul Smedley Subject: Re: USB Webcam operational. Geez Kris - enough of the conspiracy theories...... I posted to the Voice list some months ago about this...... Also - there's now usb webcam support in the latest wvgui.. You do subscribe to the Voice news list don't you? Yet another secret > acts project? > Hi Kris - no, no smoking mirrors: This was announced as "found" on the netlabs FTP server a while ago: package to support USB Webcams under OS/2. Package can be found at: ftp://ftp dot netlabs dot org/pub/wvgui/samples/wcamdemo.zip Included in the same directory at the netlabs FTP server is a file wcamlist.txt that states the following: As of this moment, the following cameras are supported: * Philips PCA645 * Philips PCA646 * Philips PCVC675 * Philips PCVC680 * Philips PCVC690 * Philips PCVC720/40 * Philips PCVC730 * Philips PCVC740 * Philips PCVC750 * Askey VC010 * Creative Labs Webcam 5 * Creative Labs Webcam Pro Ex * Logitech QuickCam 3000 Pro * Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro * Logitech QuickCam Notebook Pro * Logitech QuickCam Zoom * Logitech QuickCam Orbit * Logitech QuickCam Sphere * Samsung MPC-C10 * Samsung MPC-C30 * Sotec Afina Eye * AME CU-001 * Visionite VCS-UM100 * Visionite VCS-UC300 Since that time, WarpVision has been updated and includes, I believe the same of possibly a more advanced version of this code. I guess it's time Jonas changes the text on os2warp.be saying there is currently no support for USB webcams, however until there is an application to use the output of the webcam other than on the local screen, the use of the driver is limited. There have been OS/2 webcam programs however in the majority of cases, these have only taken snapshots and not streamed the video and audio. Had to revert to jan 2005 files to regain a working system. And I still don't understand why a Netlabs project can't be found at Netlabs ... unless you are speaking about a non-Netlabs project of course. > You do subscribe to the Voice news list don't you? > Even worse, I am member and I'm paying duly the annual fee. -- Groeten uit Gent, Kris ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 7 ==========================** Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2005 13:43:30 +0200 From: Kris Steenhaut Subject: Re: USB Webcam operational. Can I now purchase one cam mentioned on the list and assume it will work just like that? -- Groeten uit Gent, Kris ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
