I'm very curious. As you already might have seen, Marc already has given in, and frankly, as even a bios update didn't help, I don't see a way aut anymore. -- Groeten uit Gent, Kris ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 3 ==========================** Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2006 08:53:26 +1000 From: Ed Durrant Subject: Re: Finding Kernel version in eCS Kris Steenhaut wrote: > Ed Durrant ha scritto: >> >> FYI - I'm still trying to get Genmac working with an Intel 2200BG WiFi >> card in my T30 and after checking everything else, I remembered that >> last time I had to update the kernel before it would work on the T42 - >> it's presently at 14.103 in the eCS 2.0 beta code - I'll try putting a >> more model kernel in (and hope I don't stop something else from >> working !). > > I'm very curious. I still have all of my notes from what I did however. Under eCS 2.0B2 - I am at the stage where I can scan and see WiFi "hot spots" including my own Linksys WRT54G - I just cannot connect. One conclusion I have made so far is that something major has been changed in version 1.7, which stops this card from operating (however v 1.7 is an experimental build). V 1.6 appears to be the one to go with at the moment. Running the SCAN program, suggests the card is setup correctly, however XWLAN cannot connect to my WiFi router even though I know I have configured the security correctly. I am keeping notes of every action I take so that when I get this working, I will be able to analyse what the real reasons for my problems were. (Upgrading from 14.103 to 14.104 kernel didn't help). To sum up again: - when attached to the mains, here the 2200b/g works normal (except for the non working led) - when only on battery, the genmac driver can't initiate the 2200b/g, and as a result of course there is no wireless. I'll state the obvious :-) Cassette Deck, audio lead to sound card Aux/Line input, a computer, and monitoring speakers :-) I record the passages to wave using DTape , or even the OS/2 provided 'Digital Audio' program found in the Multimedia folder. Make sure you adjust the recording level, I do a test record, and normally start with the Input Level set for 33%. I then use LAME for encoding wave to MP3, as I archive off the wave files for future use. There are programs to record direct to MP3 from an input stream as well. http://www.os2site dot com/sw/mmedia/mp3/record/index.html Recording to CD depends on what you use, I tend to keep MP3's only for my wifes iPod, and write wav files to CD in Audio mode using Chris Wohlgemuth's Audio/Data-CD-Creator. http://www.os2world dot com/cdwriting/creator/creatormain.htm http://www.os2site dot com/sw/mmedia/cdr/index.html Cheers Ian Manners http://www.os2site dot com/ Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 5 ==========================** Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2006 12:16:23 +1000 From: Ed Durrant Subject: Re: Finding Kernel version in eCS Hi Kris, No I'm past the red X and black card symbol stage (although I can recreate those situations). The stage I'm at now is the actual connecting to my access point. I can scan and see the available networks - so the card IS working as is the driver. Having read around the web, there are some known problems with some versions of Intel's 2200BG cart and the WRT54G WiFi router that I am using. I have just checked firware levels between the (IBM supplied) card in the T42 and the one I purchased and added into my T30 - they are different. The purchased one is much newer. Both are reporting the same PCI/Vendor IDs however it could be that later firware level requires later drivers and the wrapper was perhaps created from an earlier version (which may match the card in the T42, but not the newer one in the T30). It's easy to get access to the Mini-PCI card in the T30 but not in the T42, otherwise the next logical test would be to transfer the older card from the T42 to the T30 and see if it works there. Mike [attachments have been removed] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------- =========================================== I have tried this a couple of years ago - both vinyl records and tapes. The easiest way is to use your sound system, preferably using your AMP - and connect the headphone socket to the line-in of your sound card. I used the built-in sound recording in OS/2 or eCs to record as 16bit WAV files. If you install the MP3 codec - which is missing from the standard ecs install you can then convert the wav files direct to mp3 with one or two simple clicks. To install the Mp3 codec just reply and I will send you the install package. To do simple editing again I used the built in wav editor in ecs. I found the trick is to get the volume level correct - just test a few times until you get it right. There are some other audio editing packages available - just check hobbes. It is however a matter of manually starting your tape deck and stopping it or pausing it while you select record and stop with the software. That way you get one wav file per song etc. regards David Shearer [attachments have been removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 6 ==========================** Date: Sun, 8 Oct 2006 15:32:26 +1000 From: "Michael/Gail Peters" Subject: Re: tape cassette to cd Thanks David, I'll reply privately about the install program. I had thought that only certain versions of the card may be fully supported by GenMac, this has not been proved by this test. Cheers/2 Ed.
