Those who want a copy of the shareware program should download it from the VOICE website. http://pmmail.os2voice dot org Registration is available to VOICE members ONLY. You must be a VOICE member to get a registration code. If you were a member of VOICE on 31 December, 2006, then you are entitled to a free registration code for PMMail. This is a benefit to reward longtime membership. If your membership ID is over 1445 then you joined VOICE after 1 January, 2007, and must purchase a licence. The licence is $25.00. The easiest way to send in $25.00 is to pay the fee for an additional annual membership at BMT Micro or Mensys. This membership will NOT extend your membership time but is for purchase of a PMMail registration code only. People who are not now members and want the program must purchase an annual membership to join and another membership for the licence fee. If you are not yet a VOICE member you can join up here: http://www.os2voice dot org/membership.html Members, both longtime and new, can get a registration code by sending me an email requesting one at treasurer at os2voice dot org This email must come from the email address that you used when you last sent in your membership application. I will confirm your membership ID number. If it is over 1445 I will await notification from Mensys or BMT Micro that you have purchased an additional annual membership before I send it out. When you get the registration code you should follow the instructions in the Help screens to apply the registration to the program. Gordon Snider Treasurer - V.O.I.C.E. [End] I signed up to Voice last November and have been providing feedback during the beta testing stage. This is a good upgrade for faithful PMMail/2 fans, and despite using beta code, I have been using it as my default mail program for most of 2008 . Now, having paid my extra $US25, I have just received my registration code. A caution for anyone wanting to migrate to the new version. The older PMMail (v2.20) was very forgiving - some would say sloppy - about the condition of emails stored by OS/2 on disk. The migration tool is more rigorous about the copying of emails to the new directory structure, and will likely fail if you have poor data or your disk drive is a bit flakey. I would recommend a thorough CHKDSK of your data drive (yes, including JFS) before commencing your migration. Nevertheless, Enjoy! From the Help File: [Begin] Server requires authentication If your SMTP Server requires authentication before sending your mail, check this box. Enter your User ID and Password in the Authentication Info text fields. PMMail uses ESMTP (Extended SMTP) exensions to query the server what services are available. For Authentication PMMail uses the most secure method offered but tries less secure options if a more secure method is not available. Use Secure Channel Enable the option to allow secure communication with the server. The option is unavailable (grayed out) if the Tunnel is not running, or if there is no Channel definition which matches the Server Name and Port number. Extended SMTP Options Over the years various additional features and options have been added to the basic SMTP protocol. Among them are Secure Log On, and Message Size. Not all servers, however, implement these options robustly. Some advertise a capability then reject messages that employ it. For this reason the extended SMTP (ESMTP) options are optional. .... The ESMTP options are enabled by default. AUTH DIGEST-MD5 The DIGEST-MD5 authentication protocol is a strong, secure method for providing authentication credentials (a Username and Password) that prevents an outsider from determining the credentials. It is good against the "Man in the middle" style of eavesdropping. Not many SMTP servers offer this capability. AUTH CRAM-MD5 The DIGEST-MD5 authentication protocol is a strong, secure method for providing authentication credentials (a Username and Password) that prevents an outsider from determining the credentials. It is not as strong as DIGEST-MD5 being smoewhat more vulnerable to the "Man in the middle" attack. This is the protocol of choice for SMTP servers since it offers good protection and low overhead. Message SIZE The message SIZE option permits the User Agent (PMMail) to give the server advance warning of the size of the message about to be sent. If the server has insufficient space in the target account for the message, the server rejects before the data is sent. The exe file is probably an installer for those people who don't have Warpin. > btw, do I also need ALL of these: > > 03-10-27 17:13 230785 0 libc04.dll > 04-04-14 16:37 356330 0 libc05.dll > 06-03-18 7:19 48120 0 libc06.dll > 06-03-18 7:19 928802 0 libc061.dll > 05-07-18 13:38 912103 0 libc06r1.dll I've often wondered this myself. The most likely answer is that you do need them all. Lots of OS/2 software uses the libc DLL, and different programs will probably be wanting different versions, depending on when they were released. I'm not sure whether a program that expects an older version will accept a newer one, but I suspect not. -- Peter Moylan peter at pmoylan dot org http://www.pmoylan dot org ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= Email 9 ==========================** Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 14:49:29 +1000 (AEST) From: "John Angelico" Subject: Re: Firefox/2 URL? hobbes plugin ?
