It wouldn't switch on, probably due to years in storage so I then dug out a Canon BJC-255SP printer which I used years ago with a laptop. That works but is very slow printing. Thought about buying a new printer but can't find anything that is listed on the RU site that is available here. Any locally sold printers also don't have CUPS listing. A friend gave me a HP psc 1315 printer and I am able to get it to work in Ubuntu although CUPS doesn't have the exact driver so it should work using CUPS in eCS 2.0 Hence I installed CUPS using the Warpin version. All the directories have been formed. Ran usb.exe and display showed that USB support is working. Started cupsd.exe minimised then fired up Firefox and opened the CUPS homepage. Clicked 'Add Printer'. Entered: Name: HP1315 Location: Local Description: HP psc 1315 Clicked 'Continue' Device: 'hp psc 1310 series (hp psc 1310 series)' was shown in the dropdown choices so I chose that. Clicked 'Continue' After a while a list of HP printers was shown with "HP psc 370-CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.4(en)" highlighted, so I then clicked "Add printer" Next page said "Printer successfully added" and configuration page appeared. Clicked 'Set Printer Options' and next page said "Printer HP1315 has been configured successfully" Then clicked on Printers tab and clicked "Print Test Page" Top of page then said "Test page sent" Then "Printing page 1" then nothing happened and line was displayed at bottom of page "No jobs" What have I done wrong? I believe the files will come from an FTP server, so you could try to
download them using an FTP client rather than Firefox.

I must say however that if you follow the article, it si based on installing the individual packages. i have used this process several tines with success. The two times I tried using the Warpin package it failed - but that could be due to my strange drive letter assignments - i.e. I don't have a C: drive visible from eCS-OS2. By the way, going back to the Epson 680 - it has a timed/usage logic in it - that stops the printer from working until it is serviced (Epson say because ink sponges get full or something). There is a free Windoze utility that allows you to reset the counters. I know I had exactly that printer for a long time and had to reset it twice, which effectively extended its useful life by about 4 years. -- Cheers/eCS2.0 Ed Please checkout my podcasts at: http://eComStationAustralia.podbean dot com or via iTunes To subscribe - click this: http://eComStationAustralia.podbean dot com/feed -------------------------------------------------- http://www./melbpc/ - The Melbourne OS/2 SIG === **= Email 6 ==========================** Date: Tue, 08 Jun 2010 18:42:07 +1000 From: Ed Durrant Subject: Re: 2.0GA ARRIVING I find PMDownloader to be a better product however filezilla should work as well. Best to try hplip, but also the only way to truely understand what's happening is to generate a debug log. - Close cupsd.exe - edit \cups\etc\cups\cupsd.conf - change Loglevel to debug - remove \cups\var\log\cups\error_log - start cupsd.exe - generate a test print - close cupsd.exe and send me \cups\var\log\cups\error_log Hope this helps, Paul -------------------------------------------------- http://www./melbpc/ - The Melbourne OS/2 SIG === **= Email 8 ==========================** Date: Tue, 8 Jun 2010 21:56:08 +1000 (EST) From: "Voytek Eymont" Subject: Re: 2.0GA ARRIVING > I find PMDownloader to be a better product however filezilla should work > as well. > > Don't know what to suggest - I presume other downloads (e.g. from > Hobbes.nmsu.edu) are working OK? > > > All I can suggest is to try to start your download at a time that isn't > the same time as a lot of people in Europe or the USA might be > downloading. wget ? -- Voytek -------------------------------------------------- http://www./melbpc/ - The Melbourne OS/2 SIG **= Email 9 ==========================** Date: Tue, 08 Jun 2010 23:08:05 +1000 From: Alan Duval Subject: Re: CUPS problem Ed Durrant wrote: > Alan Duval wrote: >> Ed Durrant wrote: >>> Alan Duval wrote: >>>> I couldn't get my Epson Stylus Color 680 to work. Alan Duval -------------------------------------------------- http://www./melbpc/ - The Melbourne OS/2 SIG === **= Email 11 ==========================** Date: Tue, 08 Jun 2010 22:24:00 +1000 From: Peter Moylan Subject: How to install IBM Works? Well, I've now installed eCS 2.0. It all went smoothly apart from the usual problem of getting Thunderbird to use my old profile instead of creating a new one. (I've never understood why it has to be so difficult to migrate mail from Thunderbird to Thunderbird.) It turns out, however, that I violated my rule against putting any applications on the C: drive. Since it has been reformatted, I've lost my entire diary. (I've used the IBM Works diary for years. It's better than any other diary application I've tried.) I'll need a bit of luck, and a bunch of phone calls, not to miss too many appointments over the coming weeks. OK, I've managed to track down my old eCS 1.2 CDs, and found a copy of IBM Works. It didn't immediately work, because of missing DLLs that used to be included with Warp 4, but I've copied those DLLs over from an older computer. It still doesn't work, though. The command "fpwpim -M" should open up the Appointments application. Instead it opens something that immediately closes, and it happens so quickly that I don't even know what it opened. I've tried moving it to the boot drive, because I know there used to be some ancient applications that insisted on being at root level on the boot drive, but in this case it didn't help. Most likely my problem is that I didn't use an installer. The catch is that I can't find anything that looks like an application installer on the eCS 1.2 "Applications" disk. It must have been somehow built into the overall OS installation process, and I'm not motivated to go and install 1.2 over the top of 2.0.
