I tried anyway to create that as a custom mode, and it worked. That's a huge relief; my eyes were aching from trying to read all the short wide characters. Now I have to increase font sizes all over the place. Mostly this is working for me. I rather liked the "Warp Sans" on the desktop icon labels, but that has no size option other than 9 point. I've now changed it to 10-point Helvetica, which is readable but ugly. Does anyone have a better suggestion? I've set OS/2 window fonts and E editor fonts to reasonable choices, but the many different PM dialogues have too-small fonts, and if I drop a new font from the font palette it's not remembered. (My own applications remember the font dropped on them, and that wasn't hard to program. Why can't system designers get it right?) At the moment I can read those small fonts, but my eyes are getting noticeably worse with time, so the time could come when I have to give up using OS/2. The really big problem, though, is mozilla applications. Thunderbird and Firefox have me stumped. I can set the font of the displayed text, but I can't see how to set the font in the "label" areas like the overview window. Being at UWA (Univesity) this year I've noticed a few things, 1) My eye sight is not what it use to be 2) My short term to long term memory transfer is not what it use to be 3) There is much I have forgotten that I know I've done but dont remember doing but its been fun relearning :) 4) Uni IT systems are messy, somethings work with FF, some with IE, some only with Chrome. Sigh, I thought those days were long past. 5) I'm simply old > Now I have to increase font sizes all over the place. Mostly this is > working for me. SET SDDFONTSIZE=Medium REM SET SDDFONTDPI=120 SET SDDFONTDPI=96 REM SET SDDICONS=small SET ENH_STRETCH=NO Once again, these are snap settings, they may still work or there may be panorama equivalents. Problems in learning something new are no big deal, but I absolutely hate discovering that I can no longer do something I used to be good at. I'm losing my physics, still good at mathematics, and having to work really hard at maintaining a competence in guitar. > 4) Uni IT systems are messy, somethings work with FF, some with IE, > some only with Chrome. Sigh, I thought those days were long past. My university became really strict on standardisation a couple of years before I retired. Windows only, all computers had to be leased, and they came with a one-size-fits-all set of application programs. We got M$-Office because that's what the administration used, but we had to fight like crazy to get engineering software because the powers that be thought that computer-aided design meant using Excel. One really big problem was that we had to scrap any student projects that required building new I/O interface cards, because opening the box was forbidden. That's one reason teaching standards went down. The other reason was Powerpoint. > 5) I'm simply old I suppose it's better than the alternative. Thanks for the SDD config.sys suggestions. I haven't tried them yet. I'm still struggling with using userChrome.css to set the Thunderbird font sizes. -- Peter Moylan peter at pmoylan.org http://www.pmoylan.org A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. We are all getting that way Eyes: Macula degeneration and cataracts Joints: ankles, knees and hips Spine: bulge pressing on nerve, Lyrica twice a day to keep the pain at bay Side effects from Lyrica Plus all the other age related problems I’m still ok with Sudoku And am starting a course on Swift programming for the little grey cells. Though I do enjoy watching the program episodes I have forgotten, but they seem to be recycling them faster these days. But my local GP bulk bills and my visits are for annual checkup and flue shots and Lyrica prescriptions. Each morning, except on Sundays, I do the Sudoku and the cryptic crossword in my local paper. I complete the Sudoku nearly every time, but these days I still have one or two words that I can't get on the crossword. The newspaper doesn't help. It's moved from showing the solutions the next day to showing them the same day. (Upside down, underneath the puzzles.) I've complained, of course, but have had no response. I think it's because they moved the editorial functions from Newcastle to New Zealand. The New Zealanders still haven't met anyone who can read upside down. -- Peter Moylan peter at pmoylan.org http://www.pmoylan.org A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
