Thanks; but as far as I can tell, that program can't import GEDCOM files, which are the standard for this kind of application. The successor of Family Tree/2, called GenealogyJ, moved to this standard, but that's the one that has suddenly been broken. I have just realised that I can solve my problem by moving to the Windows version of Java. It will be a nuisance, though, having to change computers for this job. Java was supposed to be a cross-platform solution, and it worked until a couple of months ago, but recent DLL changes have killed that option. I could probably get it working by backleveling some libraries (but which ones?), but then Firefox would probably stop working. -- Peter Moylan peter at pmoylan.org http://www.pmoylan.org The colour of a fireman's braces is entirely his own business. ----------------------------------------------- To Subscribe/Unsubscribe go to =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is a pulp free product. **= Email 3 ==========================** Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2018 22:39:13 +0800 (AWST) From: Subject: Re: GenealogyJ stopped working Hi Peter, All I can suggest is that you run PMDLL (PM DLL tree view, maintained by some guy called Steven H. Levine :)) against GenealogyJ to see which DLL's it use's, (even against the java runtime) this will at least give you an idea of what may have been updated re DLL's, and at worse you can go back to an older backup (you do backup?) and retrieve those DLL's and put in the same directory as GenealogyJ. Do you have another java app you can try? I've had no problems with JAlbum and JFTP since I upgraded the required DLL's for the latest Firefox. I'm using my rollup of DLL's in firefox-45.9.0-3_dlls.zip at BWW's Firefox 45.9.0-4 still works with those DLL's so I haven't bothered to see if there are new DLL's or not. I go a step further, something I upgraded a long time ago stopped Chris Wohlgemuth's CD-Creator (WPS classes) from working, so I now write DVD's on my normal OS/2 box from the command prompt but use an old IBM P4 computer to write the odd Audio CD, or actual CD when I need to make sure the CD can be read in an actual CD Player (using a DVD writer to record a CD doesnt not work, at least not very often). Finding what the problem was/is is still below my time factor, and has been for about the past 5-7 years.
