Date: Mon, 1 Apr 2002 11:16:43 +0000 (CUT) From: IBM Software Newsletter Subject: IBM Software Newsletter, 2002 Issue 2 IBM Software Newsletter 1 April 2002 Welcome to your new edition! Since we first launched the newsletter several years ago, our software portfolio has grown. IBM's leading software products and solutions are now represented by our brands DB2, Lotus, Tivoli, and WebSphere. In a few short years, e-business has gone from concept to undeniable reality. Both our new and established customers have harnessed the power of e-business through the use of our middleware technologies, as well as the open standards we support, to improve and transform key business processes. Middleware is the sophisticated, complex software that helps various systems and platforms work together--and IBM is the world's largest middleware company. Middleware is a transition layer that allows for interoperability between components of your infrastructure, even for applications on different platforms or from different vendors. It is the collection of products--databases, transaction management systems, messaging software, systems management solutions-- that allows our customers to do the things they care about. The importance of e-business interoperability is also why IBM embraces open standards. Open standards are the source code that function as the universal language of integrated e-businesses, bringing disparate systems and platforms together. Using open technologies like Linux, Java**, and XML, you can be sure your systems will work together now and down the road. As we move together to the next stage of e-business, dynamic e-business, you can leverage Web services--the self-contained, modular business process applications, which are based on open, Internet standards--to create innovative applications, processes, and value chains. IBM will provide the tools, protocols, and technologies to help you build and use Web services. Thank you for taking the time to learn about IBM's software products and solutions. We hope this newsletter will be a useful resource and companion piece to our IBM Software Web site at http://www.ibm.com/software We are looking to continuously enhance it by adding interviews, regular columns, links to software trials and betas, and other valuable content. Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see in this newsletter, or on our site, by contacting us at swnewsatus.ibm.com If you'd like to subscribe, unsubscribe, or change your e-mail address, we urge you to visit our new site: http://www.ibm.com/software/mailing-lists/newsletter/ We look forward to continue building our relationship.
