On April 10th IBM was recognised for the commitment and support of Technical Aid to the Disabled (TAD NSW) and received a Partner Award. IBM's commitment to TAD includes over $60,000 worth of donated computers and voice activated software each year. People with a disability are able to access technology through the TAD Computer Loans Program. This program refurbishes used computers and peripheral equipment for loan to people with disabilities. The amount of computing power available to Australian bioinformatics researchers continues to climb. In the wake of a million-dollar deal between the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing and IBM Australia, researchers, academics and industry will have increased access to computing power and bioinformatics tools. The deal provides VPAC with a Linux supercomputer cluster platform and bioinformatics tools for research in the Life Sciences.
