IBM Software Newsletter

Welcome to the July 2007 edition of the IBM Software Newsletter.

This month we have exciting news about two new products and important news about minimizing serious business risk.

First, the big news: IBM Lotus Connections and IBM Lotus Quickr have arrived. Lotus Connections is social software for business – software that makes it easier than ever to leverage and retain the knowledge people have in their minds, where experts say at least 80 percent of corporate knowledge resides. Lotus Quickr is collaboration software that gives teams fast, easy access to people, information and project content. Customers and partners are already raving about these products. Read our first feature to learn what all the excitement is about.

Next is important news every company should know: By and large, hackers have stopped hacking for fame, and started hacking for the fortune they can command by hijacking your sensitive corporate and customer data. Don’t miss our feature on the IBM Internet Security System – your best protection against the very latest security threats.

Enjoy the summer, and enjoy the newsletter.

Image   Tap more brainpower. Innovate and execute faster. Lotus Connections and Lotus Quickr are here.

Need to find experts or make connections outside your workgroup, or to share content and drive projects to completion? You need IBM Lotus® Connections and IBM Lotus Quickr™ – new social software for organizations and teams.

Lotus Connections combines profiling, shared bookmarking, communities, activity management and blogging to enable employees to share and find expertise – inside and outside the organization – in whatever ways suit them. Watch this IBM TV feature  to get a feel for what Lotus Connections can do for an organization. Then get to the Lotus Connections page for links to demos, articles, brochures and more.

Lotus Quickr is team collaboration software that makes it easier to access the people, information and project materials you need to get your work done faster and more productively. With Lotus Quickr you put shared content in one secure place, instead of scattered through multiple inboxes. You use content libraries to store and share files, wikis to collaborate on content and team blogs to share ideas. And you access everything – and everyone – from a browser or from popular desktop software. If you and your team are facing a critical project, a visit to the Lotus Quickr page is a smart first step.

Learn all that’s new on collaboration’s cutting edge.
Image   Hackers are evolving. Stay ahead of the threat.

Once upon a time your primary security challenge was to keep pace with new viruses and malware. But today you fight these threats in an entirely new climate. Today’s hackers write malicious code for profit, not notoriety; they want to invade your enterprise systems without being detected. New federal regulations compound your risk by making you accountable for protecting your data. And rising enterprise complexity makes implementing that protection more challenging, by orders of magnitude.

Traditional, reactive security technology is no longer the answer. The IBM Internet Security System™ (ISS) protection platform can help you implement proactive, core-to-perimeter security across technologies and operations – enabling improved data governance, higher productivity, and reduced odds of attack.

Read about changing IT security challenges in the new age of governance and risk management. Register to read an eye-opening new white paper on evolving security threats.

Image   What will healthcare look like in 2015? Help decide. Get informed.

It’s not exactly news that for many countries, healthcare delivery is in crisis. But you might be surprised to know that according to the IBM Institute for Business Value, many countries’ existing healthcare systems will be unsustainable by 2015 – just eight short years from today.

The Institute’s ground-breaking report, “Healthcare 2015: Win-win or lose-lose?” documents the extent of the healthcare problem around the globe and lays out a vision for transforming healthcare so that all stakeholders – providers, consumers, suppliers, insurers – will thrive. One senior pharmaceutical executive says the report “might be the single best overview piece I've read on global healthcare in a long time.
