os/2 java future...
I found the following on the ibm java developer pages http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/other/portingplans.html:
"Our plans for IBM Java 1.3.1 encompass an expanded range of platforms (AIX,
PowerPC 32-bit and 64-bit; zOS; AS/400; Windows 32-bit and 64-bit; Linux on 32-bit
and 64-bit Intel architecture, and on 32-bit zSeries) with delivery currently scheduled
for 4Q 2001. Our implementation of 1.3.1 will include our enhanced JIT compiler
and garbage collection technology.
Note that, as a general rule, we will be moving away from our previous policy
of making standalone Developer Kits available for individual download. Instead,
our emphasis is going to be on making the latest level of Java technology available
as an integrated aspect of IBM products such as WebSphere. In the case of Linux,
of course, delivery will be with the various Linux distributions.
We plan to have an IBM Java 1.4 delivery on selected platforms within six months
of the Sun General availability of Java 1.4. You can expect to see shipments on
our chosen platforms starting within 2Q 2002."
Can anyone dig up and see if os/2/ecs is included?
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/other/portingplans.html
From: Paulo Dias pcd@ieg.com.br
[Moderator Note: This is not directly news, except by the absence of any mention
of IBM's "chosed platforms" for future JDK development. If anyone can
answer this person's question, it would be important to know, since IBM has repeatedly
in the past encouraged developers to move to Java and away from OS/2 native development.]

New kernels with new features
New (09/14) kernels for OS/2 that appeared on IBM Testcase aroused agitation.
It was caused by a new driver clock0.sys included into the kernel archive and line
clockscale= for config.sys.
The first guess is that this parameter allows switching process context of the
kernel by changing a scale factor for the frequency of clock ticks.
It is an unexpected step of IBM who has done nothing new in this direction since
OS/2 Warp 3.0.
This novelty is very important for multimedia applications and tasks close to
RealTime.

OS/2 Netlabs to exhibit at Warpstock 2001
The Warpstock Committee is pleased to announce that OS/2 NetLabs will be exhibiting
at Warpstock 2001. Be sure to visit their booth when you attend Warpstock this year.
OS/2 Netlabs was founded in 1997 with the goal of creating a center for free
Open Source Software for OS/2. Today, OS/2 Netlabs is one of the largest developers
of OS/2 software outside of IBM itself. With its many ground-breaking projects,
OS/2 Netlabs has won a name for itself in the great OS/2 Community.
OS/2 Netlabs is responsible for such amazing (and free) OS/2 software like Odin
(lets you run 32-bit Windows application on OS/2), X-Workplace (a super enhancement
to the WPS), and WarpIN (the new standard in OS/2 installers).

phpMyAdmin 2.2.0
A set of PHP-scripts to administrate MySQL over the WWW.
-----------------------------------------
http://phpwizard.net/projects/phpMyAdmin/
http://phpmyadmin.sourceforge.net/
Announcement
------------
After 5 months, 5 beta releases and 4 release candidate versions, the phpMyAdmin
developers are pleased to announce the availability of phpMyAdmin 2.2.0.
phpMyAdmin is intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the Web. The
project was started by Tobias Ratschiller in 1998, and is now one of the most popular
PHP script used worldwide.
(Un)fortunately, Tobias then stopped to work on phpMyAdmin last year: the last
version (2.1.0) was released on 6. August 2000. In the mean time, there were many
suggestions and good ideas around, as well as a security advisory.
That is why on 31st March 2001, Olivier M ller (Switzerland), supported by Marc
Delisle (Qu bec), Lo c Chapeaux (France) and a team of 8 other developers re-started
the phpmyadmin project on SourceForge.net, with the authorization of the original
package maintainer. And now, after 5 months of patches, bugfixes, new features and
testing, the version 2.2.0 is finally ready.
Available at http://phpmyadmin.sourceforge.net,
it includes the following highlights:
Highlights
----------
* Security fixes
* New languages: Thai, Swedish, Galician, Romanian, Slovak, Japanese, Korean
* Dynamic multiple language support, with automatic browser language detection
* Improved documentation
* Better file import/export possibilities
* PEAR, CSS2 and XHTML 1.0 compliant (as far as possible)
* User and Database administration page
* Gzip and HTTP compression support

* Maintained PHP3 compatibility * Better BLOB support
* Table usage and row statistics
* Multiple table types
* Now backed by a full-time development team! :)
