While I never gave Napster a try, I do use a couple of Gnutella clients...

Phex is a new cross-platform gnutella client based on the Furi code-base.
Phex is a very useful/flexible/powerful gnutella client  released and
actively developed by Konrad Haenel:

I have put together a package that includes Konrad's Phex class with a set
of install/run REXX scripts.
