Subject:  [VOICENWS] AC 97 and VIA chipset

Some people have contacted me about this driver, asking what the status
was. Well VIA released a driver about 1 or 1/2 half years ago. This driver
worked in a few cases but was for the rest a disaster (sorry if developers
read this). For eComStation I'm working on collecting drivers and getting
a license to include them. The VIA driver also has my attention and I have
contacted VIA and past along the bugs which where documented in the patch
on hobbes.  I also had a lot of cases where there was no sound. Or system
sounds where played to fast.  Also with playing a video file I got a trap.

I passed all this information along. Last week I was told they where
working on a new version. All I can say, lets hope it has improved and
keep an eye on http://www.via.com.tw When it will be released I don't
know. BTW does somebody out there have a VIA motherboard with a BUILT IN
nic chipset from VIA. I have drivers that need testing.
