PHILADELPHIA OS/2 USER GROUP . http://www.phillyos2.org The Philadelphia OS/2 User Group invites all interested computer users to attend the October monthly meeting: . WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2001 7:00 - 10:00 PM . The Episcopal Academy, 376 N. Latches Lane, Merion, PA . *** OCTOBER 24th FEATURE PRESENTATION *** . -- eComStation Installation & Demonstration II -- At last month's meeting, we did a successful live installation of the GA release of Serenity Systems' eComStation and demonstrated the refinements that Serenity Systems has brought to the basic Warp 4 installation routine. This month we will follow up on that installation of eCS by reviewing some of the features included with eCom Station (eCS for short). We will have a system with eCS already installed to demonstrate these features. One of the interesting developments of eCS, as well as the IBM release of Merlin Convenience Pack (MCP), is the use of Logical Volume Manager in place of FDISK for hard drive management. With help from Vadim Kavalerov and other members who are experienced in using LVM, we will work with it and compare it with FDISK to better understand this new approach to setting up hard drives. We will then look at some current applications and utilities, including several very recent releases, which ship with eCS. As time permits, we'll try to install dial-up access using Injoy and setting up the Injoy firewall, as well as WarpIn, ODIN, Netscape Communicator 4.6.1, EDASSOC, etc. The October meeting will emphasize member discussions of many of the technical issues involved with eCS and MCP, especially LVM, which should elicit many questions. Any folks who have installed and used the new eCS GA and MCP releases are urged to come to the October meeting to share your experience and knowhow. At the September meeting, REXX guru Barry Mann briefly discussed a REXX program he had written entitled "Code Red Log File Sniffer" for an Apache server log file. This program maintains maintains a log of all attempted attacks against a web server. Barry will follow up on his September presentation with additional details which should also give rise to some good group discussions. Other agenda items, as time permits, include U/G business items, OS/2 news, Q&A session, new releases and raffles. The usual free refreshments will also be available. Mark the date and time: Wednesday, October 24th, at 7:00pm. OS/2 meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and others interested in learning about OS/2 and associated technologies. We have a very full agenda, so also please try to be on time promptly by 7:00pm. OS/2 meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and others interested in learning about OS/2 and associated technologies. .
