From: warpcafeatyahoo.de According to recent news, a Texas-based company "Forgent Networks" discovered that they are holding the rights in JPEG compression technology. Things are just beginning to evolve... acoording to what they believe, they are now allowed to raise licensing fees to manufactureres of hardware devices (cameras, etc.) that use JPEG compression and following will be browsers... maybe. Hakon Lie, CTO at Opera states, that things are not to be taken too serious at this monent, as JPEG is rather a combination of huffman and run-length coding which wre already wide spread before JPEG came up. Anyway: First it's GIF, now it's JPEG... what's next? "Electricity" ? ;) Url: http://www.computerworld.com/softwaretopics/software/multimedia/story/0,10801,72876,00.html From: Thomas Klein (warpcafeatyahoo.de) Submitted with the form on http://www.os2world.com/submit_news.php -- To unsubscribe yourself from this list, send the following message to majormajoratos2voice.org unsubscribe news end If you have an announcement you would like posted to the VOICE News list, please send it to submitatos2voice.org.
