Major enhancement is the support of the Intel i865 Springdale-G chipset. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ b) Thinkpad T40 Video workaround As the T40 is meant to be supported with OS/2, here's a little tricks to make SNAP work better: > One thing you can try is running "gaoption agpfwrite off" and then > rebooting - after that, it will probably work correctly. ATI has bugs > in their AGP FastWrite when using suspend. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ c) GoldenCode Java 1.41 Beta 2 The Golden Code J2SE 1.4.1 for OS/2, Beta 2 release is now available. This drop includes significantly faster performance and many defect fixes, including fixes for non-U.S. keyboard processing. This release has been certified Java Compatible (TM) on both the German NLS edition of OS/2 (MCP2) and the U.S. English edition. You can download the latest code via your existing FTP account at ftp.goldencode.com. f you don't have an account information, please contact infoDESPAM at goldencode.com. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ d) Innotek Java 1.41 RC 3 The OS/2 Kit for Java consists of an integrated toolset to allow deploying the original Sun Java 2 Standard Edition, Runtime Environment 1.4.1_02 or the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.1_02 on the OS/2 platform. We, of course, cannot garantuee for working configurations, but testing few of them was always successful. http://www3.telus.net/public/bissett1/Modems.html +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ g) Updated LPR driver Streaming Line PRinter (SLPR) is a streaming port driver (SLPR.PDR) used to connect your computer to a printer or print server via a TCP/IP connection. The driver uses Line Printer Daemon (LPD) protocol as specified in RFC 1179. This protocol is an almost universal way to send print data to printers and servers. It is meant to be used as a alternative to the \PIPE\LPD0 (henceforth LPD0) port driver which is shipped with OS/2. Features include: * Faster Thruput: Data can be sent to the printer almost as soon as it is generated as compared to the LPD0 driver which needs to wait until all the printer job is generated before it is sent. * Simpler Setup: The LPD0 driver requires a separate program (LPD.EXE) be up and running before it will work. Since the LPD program is communicating with the printer directly it has the status - not the spooler. * Better Error Handling: With LPD0 any problems are reported via LPD program and not the spooler. With SLPR there is a direct interaction with the spooler so error recovery is more intelligent. * User Specified Time-outs: With LPD the default is to wait indefinitely so out of paper or printer jams are not noticed for a long time. With SLPR any waits longer than the user specified time-out generates an easy to see pop-up notification. * More Ports: SLPR can have up to 64. http://www7.software.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/4eddaa42e99c19e186256a700058020a/4aa28e81f2ff3c3187256b20006208dd?OpenDocument +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ h) Scitech update of SNAP to 2.1.5 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ i) New printer drivers from IBM IBM released a new set of printer drivers: http://www7.software.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/WebCatMod?OpenView&Start=1&Count=300&Expand=3.2#3.2 Printers added to LASERJET support: Brother HL-5040 Brother HL-5050 Brother HL-5070N HP LaserJet 2300 HP LaserJet 9000L MFP OKI B4300 OKI B4300n OKI B6100n Printers added to OMNI support: Canon i550 Canon i850 Okidata ML-420 Okidata ML-421 Printers added to Postscript: Brother HL-5050 BR-Script3 Brother HL-5070N BR-Script3 HP LaserJet 2300 HP LaserJet 2300L HP LaserJet 9000L MFP Kyocera Mita FS-6020 Kyocera Mita FS-C8008N OKI B4300(PS) OKI B4300n(PS) OKI B6100n Minolta-QMS Magicolor 2350 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ j) Innotek FontEngine The InnoTek Font Engine for OS/2 (powered by Freetype 2) is a port of the Freetype 2 font engine to the OS/2 Warp platform which provides a tight integration with the OS/2 graphics subsystem. It is designed to be able to replace the OS/2 font rendering subsystem for selected (tested) applications. The benefits of the Freetype library compared to the default OS/2 font engine can be summarized as follows: * greatly improved font rendering quality for both TrueType and Adobe Type 1 outline fonts * 8-bit (256 color) anti-aliasing for smoother font display * subpixel rendering for LCD screens * better support for displaying Unicode font data * more accurate character spacing * enhanced APIs going beyond the capabilities of the OS/2 graphics subsystem (such as glyph outline query support) Currently, InnoTek supports the use of the InnoTek Font Engine for OS/2 with the Mozilla and IBM Web Browser for OS/2 products. The font rendering quality improvements achieved by using InnoTek's font engine with the Mozilla are so remarkable that every user will immediately enjoy the benefits of using the product. http://www.innotek.de/products/ft2lib/ft2libgeneral_e.html +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ k) JSyncManager 3.0 The jSyncManager is a open source, Java implementation of a HotSync-compatible protocol stack, set of data abstraction objects, development tools, and applications allowing developers and end-users to synchronize Palm devices with any Java based system. USERS: Looking for a single data synchronization solution for your PalmOS-based handhelds that will run on all your organizations systems? The jSyncManager will run on Linux, OS/2, Windows, FreeBSD, Solaris, MacOS, and any other Java enabled platform. DEVELOPERS: Want to provide PalmOS-based handheld data synchronization support to your application? Looking to build your own data synchronization application based on the jSyncManager engine? Looking to write a platform-neutral conduit for your databases that will work on any platform? The jSyncManager can help. http://jsyncmanager.sourceforge.net/ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ l) Apache 2.0.46 for OS/2 released The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards.
