Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 07:36:45 -0300 From: "Mark Dodel" Subject: [VOICENWS] Event: SCOUG meeting April 17 From: "Gary Wong" The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be next Saturday, April 17, at 09:30 AM PDT, in room 326 of the Eastside Christian School at the Grace Ministries Complex, 1645 W. Valencia Dr. in Fullerton. Odin on Steroids? InnoTek Runtime for those special Win Apps - by Mark Abramowitz The Odin project has matured to the point where many Win32 applications can run under Odin, with nary a copy of Windows in sight. But the developers of Odin have taken it to new heights commercially, developing specialized Odin wrappers for flawlessly running individual applications that sometimes even run better than the application on its' native platform. And now recently, they've developed the ultimate Windows killer, the "InnoTek Runtime" which incorporates these wrappers into one runtime. To prove that just about any dumb user (which in no way is meant to imply that SCOUG members - or presenters - are dumb) can work magic with the InnoTek Runtime, our own Mark Abramowitz will show us how to run not only apps that the runtime was developed for, but a plethora of Win32 apps. He'll be dragging and dropping, clicking, and/or using the command line. Mark will also show us what still needs work, and what could be improved for the end-user. SCOUG Server Management & Maintenance Report on A Work In Progress - by Peter Skye Peter has taken on - at least temporarily - the job of being the Webmaster for SCOUG. He's learning about a lot of things that make it all run smoothly. Specifically, he'll be covering (to some lessor or greater degree): CONFIG.SYS (including TZ=) TCPEXIT.CMD STARTUP.CMD DAYTIME.EXE OS2ntpd Cron Logging dSync WGet Mirrors and RFC's Other .CMD files, etc. Programming SIG The Programming SIG is searching for new mail server software for SCOUG. Bob Blair will discuss the results of that investigation. Lynn Maxson will give a theoretical spin to it and other SCOUG mail and Internet server issues.
