Date: Tue, 18 May 2004 16:38:25 -0300 From: "Mark Dodel" Subject: [VOICENWS] SW: Detect and repair Windows BOOT.INI problems using DFSee 6.06 From: "Jan van Wijk" One new feature was not really highlighted in the DFSee version 6.06 announcement that went out a few days ago: FIX Windows BOOT.INI file on FAT/FAT32 or NTFS This may fix many unable to boot problems with Windows, that sometimes gets very confused when installing other operating systems alongside like OS/2 with BM or Linux :-) There is now a DFSee command (and menu-item) that will: - Find the (first) BOOT.INI file in the selected partition - Display the default boot-line with partition-index - Display the CORRECT partition-index according to DFSee and (optionally): - UPDATE the BOOT.INI file in-place to use the calculated partition-index or any other value you think may fix the problem :-) A typical run on an NTFS partition without update would look like: ++++++++++ DFSee BOOTINI output sample Default boot entry line in boot.ini is: default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS The partition-number in the default line is : 2 The partition-number calculated by DFSee is : 2 ++++++++++ So no problems here :-) I think this is a very usefull feature, certainly on NTFS filesystems that are hard to update once Windows does not boot anymore!
