Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2004 06:27:34 -0300 From: "Mark Dodel" Subject: [VOICENWS] Event: SCOUG meeting June 19: WarpVision, Z!, and Emperoar TV From: Gary Wong The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be next Saturday, June 19, at 09:30 AM PDT, in room 326 of the Eastside Christian School at the Grace Ministries Complex, 1645 W. Valencia Dr. in Fullerton. Play Time! WarpVision for Videos Z! for Music Emperoar for TV & Radio The WarpVision video player (http://os2.kiev.ua/en/wv.php) has been under irregular development for close to 3 years now, by a team in Kiev. Over this time period, a great many builds have been released, significant progress has been made in several areas, but there has also been periodic backsliding in others. Still, it remains the most viable, most promising video option natively available for the OS/2 platform. We start off the presentation with our very own columnist, The Fox, who authored an overview of WarpVision some time ago (http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2002/scoug208.discoveries.html), and has been tracking its' progress and fooling around with it ever since. At our meeting, he hopes to be ready to illustrate what this program can and can't presently do. Using four different builds of WV, with a few months of separation between each, he will show varying results with an array of video clips of diverse formats. Partly because our presenter is a rather non-technical user, everyone should be able to follow this presentation. The emphasis will tilt decidedly towards entertainment value. In fact, we dare say that some of these clips you will be unlikely to see anywhere else. The Fox is still sweating out some sound and DVD playback issues, but hopes to be able to demo the latter feature as well. Next, The Fox hopes to give us a quick look at the Z! music player, and specifically at its' handling of streaming radio off of the Internet. Z! is found at http://dink.org/z/. And in conclusion, Jerry Rash (Mr. Media to SCOUGites) will demo Emperoar TV (http://www.s-t.de/emperoar/), which lets you play TV and radio on your PC.
