Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 20:47:11 -0300 From: madodel at ptdprolog.net Subject: [VOICENWS] SW: Cairo port needed for Mozilla ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: abwilliDESPAM at DESPAMcomcast.net Mozilla is moving towards using Cairo as its rendering engine: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/roc/archives/2005/04/glimpse_of_the.html Cairo is a vector graphics library designed to provide high-quality display and print output. Currently available backends include the X Window System, OpenGL (via glitz), Quartz, win32, in-memory image buffers, PNG images, PostScript, and PDF files. Some of these backends are still experimental. Cairo is designed to produce identical output on all output media while taking advantage of display hardware acceleration when available (eg. through the X Render Extension or OpenGL). from [ http://www.cairographics.org/introduction ] (warning: this site uses transparent png and thus loads _VERY_ slowly in Warpzilla). Cairo has not been ported to OS/2 as of yet. The 1.9 series is about to begin (this is when Cairo will begin to be used as the rendering engine). I have looked at this but I am not a strong programmer and know nothing of graphics programming so have not gotten anywhere. It looks like the best route at this time is to base the port off of the Windows port (really it is the backend that has to be ported which seems to consist of 2 files -font and surface - for each system.
