Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2006 16:30:22 -0500 From: madodel Subject: [VOICENWS] SW: Weasel version 1.76 released ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Peter Moylan A new version of the Weasel mail server is finally available. You can find it at http://www.pmoylan.org/pages/os2/Weasel.html or from Hobbes at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?sh=1&button=Search&key=weasel176.zip&stype=all&sort=type&dir=%2F Weasel is a shareware mail server supporting SMTP and POP3, with a number of extensions including the AUTH command for both POP and SMTP. It may be tuned for detailed control over which mail sources/destinations are permitted, and what sort of authentication is required. You can plug in your own filters (or use filters that others have contributed) for things like spam control. Blacklists are supported. An IMAP4 extension is under development, and in fact is working except for one serious outstanding bug in the fetching of large files. Registration is optional for single-domain use. To enable hosting of multiple domains, and/or IMAP support, registration is required. Because several intermediate versions were never released, the list of changes is fairly long. LIST OF CHANGES since version 1.73. Version 1.76 (15 Mar 2005) Allowed for longer names on registration page. Fixed: result of 16 from stage 0 filter was being ignored. Added new POP3 commands CAPA and AUTH. Fixed a bug in CRAM-MD5 implementation. Version 1.75 (8 Feb 2005) Internal changes to buffering and logging. Rule change: INI file is taken from working directory, instead of from program directory. Added German language file. Now use lower case instead of upper case 'a'..'f' as hex digits when representing an MD5 digest. This version not released because of a CRAM-MD5 bug. Version 1.74 (18 May 2005) Provision for a fourth service: a "message submission agent" service which is like SMTP but which is intended for messages initially entering the mail system, as distinct from those which are already in the system and are being relayed from one mail server to another. Very few mail clients understand this distinction, so you probably don't need to enable this service unless you are sure you have a need for it. Restored the "Synch" operation that was needed to work around a bug in Microsoft clients. Private build: this version not publicly released. -- Peter Moylan peterDESPAM at DESPAMozebelg.org peter.moylanDESPAM at DESPAMoptusnet.com.au http://www.pmoylan.org Please note the changed e-mail and web addresses. The domain eepjm.newcastle.edu.au no longer exists. My e-mail addresses at newcastle.edu.au will probably remain "live" for a while, but then they will disappear without warning. The optusnet address still has about 5 months of life left. -- Warpstock 2006 - Windsor, Ontario, Canada, October 12-15th, http://www.warpstock.org Warpstock Europe - http://www.warpstock.net [Moderator's note: All posts are sent without guarantee to the accuracy of the content.
