Date: Wed, 05 Aug 2009 21:46:38 +0200 From: VOICE News Service From: VOICE News Service Subject: [VOICENWS] SW: Firefox 3.5.2 and 3.0.13 released ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: mozillaDESPAM at DESPAMweilbacher.org [I wanted to send this announcement late last night, but my computer crashed multiple times while trying to make the backup to DVD.] Firefox 3.5.2 and Firefox 3.0.13 are released for OS/2. Firefox 3.5.2 is the first time a browser is released on mozilla.org for OS/2 in the "Gecko 1.9.1" line. More on that below. Firefox 3.0.13 is a standard security and stability release without OS/2 specific changes from 3.0.12. Two critical and one moderately severe security hole was fixed in cross-platform code.[1] Both releases are available from The ZIP packages, the README file, the MD5 checksum, and the Language Pack directories are listed on this page. This is the first time I'm doing a release of Firefox 3.5. Walter Meinl, Stefan Schmohl, Rich Walsh, Dave Yeo, and I, with more help from other people, have done quite a bit of work in the last year to make FF 3.5 available on OS/2, this work is not completely finished yet. While the program should be as stable as Firefox 3.0.x, some of the new features are missing, most notably HTML5 media support (in-browser video and audio without plugins[2]) and downloadable fonts (" at font-face") are not supported yet. We'll be adding improvements to the Firefox 3.5.x line with the next releases. But we still hope that many people start using FF 3.5. The earlier you find problems, the easier it is to fix them! If you find bugs of FF 3.5, especially if they were not present in Firefox 3.0 (or 2.0.0), please post in this newsgroup or open a new bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org. [1] Please note that the Firefox 2.0.0.x line has been unsupported for half a year. Since then, numerous security problems in Mozilla code have been discovered, but only fixed in Firefox 3.x. Using FF 2.0.0.x is therefore risky, unless you fully trust the web pages you visit! [2] For the moment, if you want a Firefox 3.5.2 build _with_ media support, you can try Walter Meinl's package from .
