Date: Mon, 12 Apr 2010 16:33:27 +0200 From: VOICE News Service Subject: [VOICENWS] Drivers: Mensys Status Updates: Gigabit Ethernet and HDA Drivers ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: warpcafeDESPAM at DESPAMyahoo.de Hi all, Today, April 12th 2010, Roderick Klein informed me that Mensys just signed a contract with a company that will be providing eCS with the Gigabit Ethernet driver that was, amongst others, subject to a bounty discussion at OS2World.com. As a matter of fact, the development path was already defined and agreed: The driver will be based upon Linux modules for e1000e and thus (according to my limited technical understanding) should cover a trunkload of Gigabit NIC adapters which were lacking eCS support until now. Those who have SVN access to the eCS repository can expect to see some code merges in the upcoming days and weeks due to the aforementioned development works. Also, I am happy to share some promising news regarding audio: While Roderick was talking to me about the Gigabit Ethernet stuff, he happened to receive an email from the developer who they (Mensys) put in charge to take a dedicated look at the problems regarding HDA (High Definition Audio) and Uniaud. He has indentified a first cause for the trouble and is now digging deeper into the matter. Roderick was more than pleased about the news since the developer only started to work on it some days ago and thus performing with the hoped-for impact in matters of competency, speed, and quality. To tell a long story short: We can expect improvements in this area as well. I just wanted to share some good news with you, especially since we're on a Monday and it perhaps could sweeten your weeks' start. Note: As usual, when I report things from the technical frontline, bear with me if I missed upon (or messed up) technical details.
