Date: Mon, 04 Jul 2011 06:42:44 +0200 From: VOICE News Service Subject: [VOICENWS] SW: FireFox v4.0.2pre and SeaMonkey v2.1with Native Printing Support ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: richDESPAM at DESPAMe-vertise.com Full-featured native printing support in Firefox and Seamonkey is now available for testing. You can get these betas from: * Firefox v4.0.2pre: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/firefox-20110702.zip or http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/firefox-20110702.zip * Seamonkey v2.1: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/seamonkey-20110703.zip or http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/seamonkey-20110703.zip New --- All features offered by your printer driver (e.g. duplexing) should be fully functional. In addition, your printer's output resolution is no longer limited to conserve memory. In most cases, you should be able to print at higher resolutions while using less memory than previously. Please see 'Notes' below for more info. Fixed ----- Both apps will now run on systems where dive.dll is not present. If it is available, it will be loaded to provide improved video performance for users of SNAP and GenGradd. Notes ----- General: This is the second phase of a project sponsored by Mensys to provide printing support in the Mozilla apps. Unlike Phase I where the app created the printed output dot-by-dot, this version uses native graphics commands that are interpreted by your printer's driver to create the final output. Postscript: If you've been using the built-in Postscript generator and would like to switch to OS/2's native PS printer driver, type "about:config" in the URL bar and press 'Enter'. Doubleclick on the entry for "print.os2.postscript.use_builtin" to change it from 'true' to 'false'. If this entry is missing, the app will default to the native driver. Postscript to PDF: This version should produce high quality output when directed to a printer. However, its output may not be suitable for conversion to PDF because all text is handled as graphics rather than characters that can be selected. Instead, you can either use the app's built-in PDF capabilities (select "Print to File", then give the filename a 'pdf' extension) or you can print to file using the app's Postscript generator (select a non-Postscript printer driver, click "Print to File", then give the file a 'ps' extension). Bug(?): If nothing prints the very first time you try, close the app, reopen it, then retry. It should not fail again. Support ------- Community support for these betas and all Mozilla apps is available through the newsgroups 'mozilla.dev.ports.os2' or 'comp.os.os2.apps'. Messages posted to other forums may not be seen by the developers.
