OSMMWARP - OS/2 WARP MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION MANAGER/2 (MMPM/2) 11/16/94 ================================================================ OS/2 WARP MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION MANAGER/2 (MMPM/2) ================================================================ Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures ---------------------------------------------------------------- This document provides information for OS/2 WARP MMPM/2 and its new features. If you are using an unsupported sound card, you must contact the manufactuer for support. Only the Audio boards listed are supported under OS/2 WARP and MMPM/2. Installation ---------------------------------------------------------------- MMPM/2 is fully intergrated into Selective Install. If you want to install a feature of MMPM/2, you must do Selective Install. Do not run MINSTALL.EXE from an OS/2 Window. MMPM/2 installation AUTO DETECTs the supported device in the machine. However, it does not automatically configure IRQ,,DMS,,I/O settings. You must know which settings to to use based on the jumpers set on the devices. YOu can run RMVIEW /XXX from and OS/2 Window to see the IRQ, DMA, and I/O being used currently in the machine. ** RMVIEW /XXX where XXX equals: IRQ, DMA, IO Supported Hardware ---------------------------------------------------------------- A. WIN/TV - Hauppauge System Sounds ----------------------------------------------------------------- A. Sounds repeating after boot up or during play back of WAV file: 1. Always IRQ conflictions. Refer to the documentation to find the IRQ settings for devices installed on your machine. B. No system sound or Hangs after installing MMPM/2 1. Make sure IRQ's , DMA's and I/O address are not being shared by other devices. NOTE: Make sure address 330 is not being used by any other device. 330 is used by the sound card for the MIDI port. Usually ADAPTEC cards uses this address. 2. Check jumpers on Sound card. Make sure they match what you selected for the sound card during Selective Install of Multimedia. Check CONFIG.SYS. 3. Wrong card selected during Selective Install of Multimedia. C. SYS 1201 error on sound card driver after installing MMPM/2: 1. Make sure you have the card installed in the machine. 2. Make sure you are using a card supported under MMPM/2. 3. If you are using a Sound Blaster ( 8 Bit ), make sure the card is at DSP 2.0. The DSP chip is labeled CT 1351. It needs to be at that level for the card to work under OS/2 2.1 and MMPM/2 1.1 4. You may have selected the wrong card during the Selective Install of Multimedia. Run RMVIEW to check resources currently used in OS/2 D. WAV files sounds are truncated. 1. Check the device statement for the sound in the CONFIG.SYS, for example: DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 5 220 4 /N:SBAud1$ 4 is the buffer value that can be change to 2,4,6,8 Make sure you are using the latest MMPM/2 drivers for your sound card. Contact the respective manufacturer for these drivers. MMPM/2 Applets ---------------------------------------------------------------- A. Error "Desired action not supported or card may be defective" when starting the DIGITAL AUDIO program. 1. Usually a hardware conflict. Check IRQ,DMA,I/O address. 2. Another session or application may be using the Sound card. Device sharing is not allowed. B. Playing Software Motion Video (AVI) from CD-ROM. Video is slow or jerky. 1. If you are using a CD-ROM that is connected to the CD- Interface of a supported sound card: a. Make sure you are using the latest driver from the manufacturer (TMV1SCSI.ADD and SBCD2.ADD ) b. Make sure you are running at highest resolution and at least 1 meg of memory on the video card. Other Problems ---------------------------------------------------------------- A. After installing MMPM/2 customer can no longer get their DOS apps to produce sound using a SOUND BLASTER. 1. Install the DOS drivers for the card. 2. Make sure the IRQ,DMA,I/O address match what was set during MINSTALL. 3. From a DOS FULLSCREEN, go to the directory that was created for the DOS drivers. 4. Run SBMIDI. 5. Go to the PLAYMIDI directory and type the exe.: PLAYMIDI JAZZ. 6. This plays a midi file and also initialize the sound card. 7. Press Esc to stop the midi file from playing and run the executable for game. B. You have MMPM/2 installed and go to a DOS FULLSCREEN and play the game. When you exit, the system sounds begin to repeat or loop. 1. IRQ conflict - Make sure IRQ,DMA, I/O address match what is in the CONFIG.SYS for the MMPM/2 driver for the sound card. TIPS ----------------------------------------------------------------- A. Reel Magic 1. MMPM/2 provides support MPEG playback using Reel Magic. You must select both Reel Magic Audio and Reel Magic Video options. 2. Sound Blaster cards are the only cards under OS/2 that support MPEG Audio. 3. Run in 640x480 256 colors if you are using a Reel Magic card in their machine. Higher color modes result in upredictable results. This is a hardware limitation of the REEL MAGIC card. B. Digital Video 1. Digital Video supports playback of AutoDesk 3D .FLC / .FLi formats. It also provides playback of Audio with the file. If you want to play an AutoDesk file and also have an Audio file to play with it, you must: a. Have a .FLC or .FLI on the hard disk, for example TEST.FLI b. Have a .WAV file with the same name as the AutoDesk File in the same directory. For example, TEST.WAV c. Open Digital Video. Select File open and load TEST.FLI. Choose play. The movie starts and plays the .WAV file with the same name. NOTE: AUDIO and VIDEO sync will not be working. If the .FLI file is shorter then the .WAV file, the Audio continues after the movie stops. This is working as designed. You need to edit the .WAV file to match the .FLI length. C. Thinkpad Audio 1. There is no MIDI support with the Thinkpad Audio Drivers. This is a hardware limitation of the Crystal Semi chip on the PLANAR CS4231. D. WINOS2 Audio Support 1. OS/2 WARP supplies the WINDOWS drivers for the supported SOUND CARDS in MMPM/2. The sound card you select during installation of MMPM/2 determines the Windows drivers copied to the hard disk. They are not automatically installed in WINOS2. You must run the Control Panel and choose Drivers to install the Windows drivers. These drivers help you configure the WINOS2 session with sound. If there is a problem with the drivers, contact the manufacturer of the sound card for support. They are being supplied as is. If you have a problem with the supplied Windows drivers, contact the respective manufactuer for the most up to date drivers. Removing MMPM/2 --------------------------------------------------------------- Do not use Selective Install or Selective Uninstall to remove MMPM/2. Use the following procedure to remove MMPM/2. 1. Backup OS/2 CONFIG.SYS 2. Edit the CONFIG.SYS, removing all MMOS2 statements. 3. Delete the Multimedia Folder 4. Perform shutdown and restart the syste. 5. Remove the MMOS2 directory and sub-directories. 6. Run Selective Install to install MMPM/2. Contact the manufacturer for file updates and location.
