IBM Networks Primary Logon Client for Windows NT and Windows 2000
                    Professional

                    Introduction 

                    The IBMİ Networks Primary Logon Client for Windows NTİ and Windows 2000
                    Professional (or the PLC, for short) allow select IBM servers to provide a range of domain
                    level support for Windows NT and Windows 2000 Professional clients. Originally
                    developed for OS/2 Warp Server domains, this support has been extended to iSeries
                    domains with the release of OS/400 V5R1. In V5R1, AS/400 Support for Windows
                    Network Neighborhood (AS/400 NetServer) provides the following domain logon services: 

                         Central Logon Authentication 
                         Windows User profile storage/retrieval 
                         Windows System Policies storage/retrieval 
                         Home Directories 
                         Roaming profile support 
                         Logon Script support 
                         Domain Master Browser function 

                    These services are automatically available to Windows 95/98 clients in the network
                    without any additional software requirements. However, Windows NT and Windows 2000
                    Professional clients require the PLC networking component in order to take advantage of
                    these services. 

                    NOTE: The documentation bundled with the PLC is written with OS/2 Warp Server in mind
                    and parts of it may not be applicable to the iSeries. 

                    Installation Instructions 

                    WARNING: The PLC should only be installed on Windows workstation clients. Never
                    install the component on a server. Servers may try to provide some of the functions that
                    the Primary Logon Client is trying to acquire remotely, which may cause an internal
                    conflict. 

                    The readme document that comes with the PLC discusses different installation options,
                    including the use of a configuration file to easily install multiple clients with the same
                    options. Refer to the readme documentation for more information. 

                    To get started, follow these steps: 

                       1.Backup your current settings and network configuration. Windows NT allows you to
                         do this by making a recovery disk with system files (type 'rdisk /s' at a command
                         prompt). Use the Backup utility with Windows 2000. 
                       2.Download the PLC executable (plc2k.exe) into an empty directory of your choice.
                         This file is available at the bottom of this page. 
                       3.Run the executable to extract the necessary files into the directory. 
                       4.Run the Setup.exe program to perform the install. This adds the IBM Networks
                         Primary Logon Client component to client's network services. You can take the
                         default options. 
                       5.To see this component before you reboot, goto Control Panel-->Networks (On
                         Windows NT, this is on the Services tab). On Windows 2000, select Properties of
                         the local area network. 
                       6.Highlight the IBM Networks Primary Logon Client service and select Advanced
                         properties to add the names of domains you want to be automatically selectable at
                         the logon prompt. You should not change the properties on the SMB Driver tab. 
                       7.After a reboot, the PLC logon prompt appears. Use the domain Discovery button to
                         log onto a domain or to the Local Workstation, if the domain controller cannot be
                         located. 

                    Usage Notes 

                         If logging onto an AS/400 NetServer (iSeries) domain, AS/400 NetServer must be
                         configured as the Logon Server. See the Logon Quick Setup guide for more
                         information on Domain Logon setup. 

                              The domain used in the logon prompt is the domain that AS/400 NetServer is
                              configured for. 
                              Currently, the domain controller resolution for the PLC is supported only for
                              clients on the same TCP/IP subnet as the Logon Server. Using WINS for
                              Logon Server resolution may work across subnets, however, this is a
                              client-side operation and is not guaranteed. 
                              The PLC installs the IBM Networks Client program as well as a network
                              component. This is an administration GUI that is only supported in OS/2 Warp
                              domains. However, the function that displays the list of users logged onto the
                              domain will work for AS/400 NetServer domains when the client can access
                              AS/400 NetServer.
