The Samba Server WarpIN package now also follows the version scheme change recently introduced for Samba for eCS (OS/2) at netlabs. Therefore its name is Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.0.0.4-RC3, based upon official Samba version 3.0.34Change! (the core files are the ones from samba-3.0.34-os2-eCS-1-0-0-4-20090402.zip, which has the following Tickets fixed (#53, #54, #69, #71, #74, #76, #77 and #78) New features of this WarpIN package: * Change!SWAT is integrated. You need an Apache 2.x .zip file such as Apache 2.2.8 from Paul Smedley in order to make use of SWAT. Just unzip Apache somewhere and tell the installer where to find it (in case it does not find it itself!). In case it is not available during initial installation, it may be added later using new swatsetup.exe. * Change! Many components have been updated with several features (most notably SWAT credentials, "nobody" as an alternative name for the guest account,...) and several bugfixes (sscc.exe Ver. 0.8.6, smbusers.exe Ver. 0.8.0, usermod.cmd Vers. 2.1.5, new smb.cmd, smbmon Ver. 0.9.21). * The multilanguage installer has been updated, Change!it now (optionally) supports complete deinstallation (including configruation files). * It is not necessary to uninstall a previous WPI. * It is not necessary to install any baselayout package anymore (this was also true for the last WPI). * It detects several prerequisites (most notably status of UNIXROOT, presence of NetBIOS over TCP/IP, presence of VROBJ.DLL The WarpIN installer package installs and preconfigures (besides the Samba core binaries) the following utilities (browse all files): * smb.cmd is an extended port of *nix shell script to start/stop/restart Samba services (now also takes several properties from smb.conf, proper detection of running Samba instances, reports if all instances were shutdown successfully). The latest drop has the process killing feature (previously found as killpid plugin for smbexit.cmd) integrated and supports SWAT (see below). * sscc.exe (Version 0.8.5) Installation and configuration utility (now supports root account creation, supports migration from IBM Peer, can choose passwort backend between smbpasswd and tdbsam, some smaller additions, better experimental support to create a Primary Domain Controller (PDC) Samba server, saving issues fixed, menu to add [homes], [netlogon] and [profiles] services to an existing smb.conf). Latest release has a nasty bug fixed which was the reason for broken new installations. Note: It is strongly recommendend to use only versions better than 0.8.0! Note: If you want to setup a PDC, move your old smb.conf out of the way and let sscc.exe create a new one. Use your favorite editor to import shares from your old smb.conf afterwards. There is no wizard to migrate a standalone server to a PDC (yet). It is strongly recommended that you use tdbsam backend, use pdbedit to migrate users and groups from smbpasswd backend to tdbsam backend (Use: pdbedit.exe -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam). Caution: If you experience crashes upon startup in sscc.exe, put SET SHELLHANDLESINC=200 into your CONFIG.SYS and reboot. This should be gone with 0.8.3. * smbusers.exe (Version 0.7.0) Samba Users and Groups utility (add/edit/remove users and groups, map/unmap groups, create well-known NT-groups, let users join and leave groups, create "rebuild groups" script, detect and fix more errors, console to run net rpc commands that are not yet fully supported by smbusers.exe GUI. In addition the usermod Script (and the forwarder scripts) and groupmod Script (and the forwarder scripts) come in this package from now on. The groupmapinst.cmd script was "ported" to REXX and now also comes in this package. Latest release has several errors in the Samba detection and initialization logic fixed, as well as a few rough edges ironed out and polished. Note: Versions 0.5.6 to 0.6.4 had this bug and should not be used anymore! * smbmon.exe (Version 0.9.20) Samba server status monitor utility to present the information provided by various Samba command line utilities (most notably "smbstatus smbd", smbcontrol and smbtree) in a conveniant notebook GUI. It has separate pages for files, users, services, daemons details view and tree view, and LAN ressources. The refresh intervall is configurable. The latest drop displays server uptime information, in addition it has the file date/time on files page split into 2 separate columns, fixes and additions for the winpoup style messages and a delay of 0,3 sec added upon refresh in order to avoid missing PIDs on a freshly started Samba server. * sharewiz.exe (Version 0.2.0) Samba directory share wizard is a decent GUI to share directories on a Samba Server machine. Having xWorkplace or eWorkplace installed is mandatory for this utility. The latest drop of this utility has been overhauled in general and shares large parts of code with sscc.exe, smbusers.exe and smbmon.exe now, including NLV support. sharewiz.exe is integrated into the WPI archive from 1.0.0.2-RC4 or better. * several icons provided by David Graser * findsmb.cmd enhanced port of *nix shell script to find SMB/CIFS machines on the current or a given subnet. New -X switch to find even more smb computers (most notably machines running WindowsXP, that refuse to answer to broadcasts), now also works with 4OS/2 shell and older REXX interpreters. Latest drop does not crash when nobody responds to a nmbd broadcast. * sharescripts-20070822.zip external command scripts to add/remove/modify Samba shares from a client (tested with WinXP only) * smbprint.exe (Version 0.2.0) external Samba print command for eCS (OS/2) acts as a bridge between Samba and the eCS (OS/2) printer subsystem. This utility is required if the Samba Server should act as a print server. http://members.aon.at/herwig.bauernfeind/samba/
